Re: films
I wonder why the Russians dont say "Whats the difference between Scotland and the Crimean", the threat of annexing Russia from the UN, I am sure if I was a Russian would be saying thank God for that, lets do our own thing. I can vividly remember the US interfering with one of the BWI islands by invading same not too long back. Who in their right mind would want a so called graft ridden government like has been exposed in the past in the US. It seems if a country wants a different form of Government than the West they are in the wrong. I see no poor politicians either in the USA or in fact in any other western Democratic country. That at least should tell those who are blind to the machinations of party politics something. To denounce the referendum of the Crimea, and to back the illegal take over of the Ukraine beggars belief. Whatever little morals the US had , they have a few less now to my thinking. They should do what they intended doing before being forced into the last war, to retain their isolationism. If it hadnt been for Japan, they would never have entered in the first place. John S.

Re: films
It would appear the people of Crimea have vaoted to be a part of Russia. The EU and USA say they will not respect that result. Two countries that talk of democracy but will not accept the democratic responce from the people. What is the EU, or in partciularly Germany, fearful of that Russia will have a greater land mass and better economic outcomes?

Re: films
Some of us have had contact with Russians. I have in particular sailed with them under their flag. They were seamen just like us with the same moans and groans. One thing they did have which is sadly lacking in a lot of western countries, is patriotism. It would be hard to find an unpatriotic Russian. It is a barrier no other country is going to break down, no matter what propoganda they put out adversally against the Russian people. If they act on Embargos, there will be retallatory measures, and in general the Russian people are much more equipped to suffer than the west is with its cotton wooled living conditions. Let Russia do what it has to do and butt out as said before, any slow learner would know this. John S

#73... Lookout Scotland, you might find you have upset your across the Atlantic cousins, and you know how twitchy they can get. They may withdraw all their Nuclear submarines from Holy Loch and Faslane where the British ones were will no doubt go to Portsmouth. All the rag time army wanting rid of them and who stand outside the gates will have to find somewhere else to park their asses. Maybe outside the Scottish Parliament might be a good site for them. You can always park the Scottish Navy (Ben Line) at Customs House Quay on the opposite part of the river. Although think Ben Line dont exist anymore. Cheers JS

Re: films
They may impose an imbargo on Russia but the EU and the west have far more to loose than Russia does, a country thta provides much of the EU with gas and is the worlds second largest providor of credit after China.

Re: films
#78... Alf join the club, I was always taken in by this rumour put out by politicians. How can it be democratic when you have to be vetted by a party to be accepted. The US politics I find hard to follow, as if you have no money and no backing you have no way of entering the political arena. To be a politician in just another way to hold power, if in government with a majority, you can do as you please, change laws, make laws, go to war,all on their own assessment and likes. There is a lot made about Democracy, in theory is the only way for the people to elect there so called leaders, however once in they can do what they want, and in 3 years or whatever the term can do a lot of irreversal damage. This has been shown by the last 3 governments of the UK. The present stalemate of the referendum on Europe shows the sheer Arrogance of the present and past Prime Ministers. A good example of arrogance is the Ukraine, the West apparently accept the ousting of the president of that country by dissidents, yet do not accept the peoples vote on the Crimea. Cheers John S.

Re: films
When you hear the Americans calling upon Freedom for countries and their people. Is not so long back when entering the US as a crew member off a ship were questioned by a so called Immigration officer, Are you a member of the Communist Party, are you or have you ever had any affiliations with a communist party. I know of one bosun who said yes and he wasnt allowed ashore, what is it with the Americans are they that afraid that people dont like their method of government and will try and alter. The American people are obviously happy with their way of government, and should be happy for other countries to have theirs. Incidentally Russia is no longer considered a communist country maybe thay havent become aware of the fact yet. JS

Re: films
What we in the west call democracy may not be what others like to cal it. The only real democratic right we have is to kick out a gov we do not like at the election, but once in they can do as thye please telling the people it is good for them. So what is true democracy, is it having the right to vote and have your say, or is it the right to kick them out. Which ever way neither of them wil result in much change because once in politicians of all sides forget the meaning of the word.
