Re: Floods in UK
Doc--Please allow me to interject, (thats a nice word, pity I dont know what it means)!!
Anyway, in our little village we have had no less than 9 power cuts since last week-end, the longest lasting 3 hours.
A few minutes ago, the phone rang, and that was 'WESTERN POWER' ringing to apologise to all the residents in the village
for the loss of power. It appears that the insulators got damaged and soaking wet in the storms.
I gracefully accepted this apology, but when I suggested that a brown envelope with a few coins of the realm inside would be nicer---she hung up!!
Does anyone else get personal apologies from power companies??
Mind you--Pam just said, 'once they knew that I was involved, someone had better say something to humour me'!!!
Happy New Year to you and your good lady.
Colin

Re: Floods in UK
Hello,
In answer to Vernons question, am I alright ?, yes we are, we live on a hillside.
On the town side.
The only problem we had the other day was a branch fell off a tree and blocked our service road.
I went out to attempt to move it but it was too heavy.
All the best for the New Year.

Re: Floods in UK
To counteract flooding of homes past & present I usually end living on a hill. So being snowed in every year is my problem. The worst winter I encountered was being snowed in for eight days without heating, water & loo's as the house had been built by an American and was all electric. After being forced to manually empty the wc's
every day my hubby requested that I stop feeding the children
.........It takes one basin full of snow for two cups of tea! and having ten greyhounds at the time the children were warned not to use yellow snow!

Re: Floods in UK
Water bills are based on consumption/ sewerage and rainwater collection
Water companies estimate that approx. 80% of your consumption is returned to the sewers.
Therefore volume consumed and sewerage are the same although charged at different rates.
Rain water collection is a guestimate and you get no reduction for a drought.
Best way to reduce charges is get a water meter fitted, I did a few years ago and the bill dropped dramatically.

Re: Floods in UK
Vic,with respect I had a water meter fitted because there is just two of us here.I was promised savings of at least £100.00 p.a. but now it looks that after getting the 6 month bill I will be paying more. You do have the option of going back to the old system if you are not happy with the new charges.
Regards.
