Floods in UK
Have just been watching the News here, and see the terrible Floods affecting parts of the UK,mainly in Kent and Surrey Areas!
I sincerely hope that none of our Members have been too badly affected by these!
I spoke to Brian and at least he is OK,thank goodness, hope too that the same applies to Mike in Maidstone!
It must have been pretty bad all over as the Power to so many Homes has been cut, for how long these People will be without Power ? Pray that it is soon restored ! A very bad time indeed to have this Happen at Xmas with all the Cooking that had to be done, only those with Gas appliances I suppose were spared the inconvenience!
So Lads all over there sincerely hope that you are ALL OK!
Take Care
Regards
Doc!

Re: Floods in UK
doc may be if people would keeps the streets cleaner the drains would take more away? I bet there will still be a hosepipe ban in a few months time. anything over 2in of anything and the country grinds to a halt{I could have put that another way but it would have brought sex into it}

Re: Floods in UK
Hi John
I will definitely agree with the Drain issue mate, here too drains are always so full of rubbish,i have often had to phone the Councils to come out and clean them.
Cheers

Re: Floods in UK
The Big problem here is They do not dredge rivers any more, they do not send the tankers with pumps on to clean the grids and drains anymore. They were a common sight cleaning regularly. The River Mersey in the upper reaches towards Manchester were continuously being dredged by a Grab crane. All stopped. All the little Seaports around the coast were always dredged regular, but since these ports closed No Dredging, they silt up and then they Flood.
If Bangladesh was flooded Cameron would send Billions in aid, if England is flooded , Nothing.

Re: Floods in UK
Interesting comments re drains in UK maybe the following could be considered? When we first came here to Paris we were horrified at the casual way the French just toss their rubbish, cigarette butts etc into the gutters. Then we saw the superb system they have whereby the council man comes around maybe four times a day turns on this water which gushes down the gutter only the gutters, washing all the rubbish into a spot where it is collected. At this point little green brush & sucking machine with a operator/driver takes the papers etc & the cigarettes butts go into the storm water system where the water is then recycled-returned, after the butts etc removed. All in all a very clean city except of a couple of poor areas (Arrondissments) where it is just out of hand with rubbish worse spit everywhere. Only thing we find very hard to get used to is the pissing in the streets. Some areas really stink of urine truly just appalling & it is not just bums who do it either, we see well dressed people + have seen women do it too the former often in full view of people just amazing.
