Hi Cappy,
that is why the Poll Tax was fair, every person paid the same amount. I was living alone and paid the same as the family next door with FIVE WORKERS in there.
Like going into a pub, buying a pint and paying the same amount as the one who is buying the round for Five Men next to you.
at £2,50 a pint it would cost you £12.50p for your pint.
Now you would object to that but the clowns objected to the tax.
I was paying £1,000 a year so the workers next door were paying £200 each. Not Good.
.
It was very fair, But a lot of people stated shouting and rioting.
CRAZY.

Then again Brian all the toffs living in big houses with a hundred acres paid the same as a person in a two up and two down.

The other side of the coin was that those who had the loudest voice were shouting that the Lord of the manor sitting in his castle was paying the same as the council house tenant. He who shouted the loudest and there were more of them got their way. John Sabourn

Hi Jim. If you went into the pub and a wealthy fellow stood next to you, would you expect the barmaid to charge him more just because he had a few bob in the bank??
All prices are the same everywhere except the Tax.
As I have said, you would not pay the same for a pint as the man next to you buying five pints for five men.
The `Toff` probably pays more income tax than the one in a 2 up 2 down.
I live in a semi detached and have to pay more than the people in the next road who live in 3 bed terraced, WHY ?? they all recieve the same Services of the town as me, I do not get anymore services because I pay more council Tax.
If you look at the Tax Form it says what Sercvices you get, eg Street lighting, Fire, Police Transport, Street Cleaning etc etc. and should be paid for by everyone who has the benefit of those services, you should get what you pay for.
If I save my money for a lifetime to buy a decent big house, and my mate squanders his and decides he is happy like that in a 2 up 2 down terrace, that is his choice, but he still uses the same services as me , why should I pay more than him. ????
Most of the people round me. from the Khyber get FREE Council Tax, they do not work, they all have `bad backs. so I am subsidising them on my pension.
I believe that the Poll Tax is Fair.
Cheers
Brian.

New Legislation.
Brian,I was not amused having a pint on the way home from work and all hands are there covered in shlt where they have been out working all day,did the pay Poll tax NO why because they were claiming benefits.the same for prescriptions they got them for free if I needed one I had to pay for it.The whole banding system is wrong, as you say if you all live in the same borough you should all contribute the same for using the same services. How about this,as you are aware if one person lives in the house alone they are entitled to "Single occupancy rebate"Liverpool City Council have found out that they have the highest single occupancy in the country which they find hard to believe. They are going to spy or whatever on the people claiming this benefit,in this day and age you would think it would be easy to trace peoples addresse through SS payments or if working NHI contributions
