    I agree with that Rob,
It was Scargill who closed the Pits, My brother was a Miner and he was forced with Violence to go on a strike no one believed in. Scargills `Heavies`, most not even miners , would smash up a miners Car and the windows of his house, intimidate his wife and children.
Scargill refused to allow the maintenance men to go down and keep the Pits open by pumping out water, checking the pit props etc. etc. then the pits closed themselves by flood and collapsed roofs burying millions of pounds of equipment.
Scargill was a "Communist" gangster. lining his own pockets at the expense of the Miners. AND still does.
Tom Yates of the NUS was also a gangster. who made himself a multi millionaire out of us.
As for the Poll Tax, for me it was the best thing ever. I lived on my own at the time. Next door was a family of Five, two parents and three teens and twenties lads all working and I was paying the same Council tax as them.
Just like having a meal for One in a restaurant and having to pay the same bill as Five people on the next table.
The Poll tax was fair. I was a lot better off. I paid tax for me, they paid tax for themselves, Next door they were all moaning. What was the Problem????
    Cheers
    Brian.

And what of Scargils end ?, living in a large house on a large pension, rent ,rates free, the man should have been locked up years ago. But much like ourselves and the seamans union, we allowed it to happen, KT

Believe he was a donkeyman on the NE colliers. Remember before he got into the hierarchy I was working in the office 56 Pilgrim Street when home on leave. Was told he would never work again on the Tyne, then he came up in the Union, and the shipowners were falling over themselves trying to accomodate him. Certainly knew how to appreciate the finer things in life such as chauffeur driven cars etc. Regards John Sabourn

I never had any dealings with John Prescott but i must admit that I admire him for his rise from a winger in Cunard to Deputy Prime Minister. In todays paper JP has written this." I was responsible for introducing the "tonnage tax"-a tax not on profits but on how many ships you registered in Britain"It was effectively a tax break and increased British shipping from 2 million tons in 1997 to more than 14 million when I left office.According to Maritime UK it boosted our economy by £8.2billion and safeguarded 115.000 jobs.Shipping now earns £1.5 million for the UK economy every hour of every day.But what did the coalition allow Cunard to do last year? Leave Britain so it ships could fly the flag of Bermuda, where wages are lower than our minimum.BUT they still take advantage of our tonnage tax. We're subsidising their profits so they can employ cheap foreign labour. The Governments's happy to scrap protected wages for poorly paid workers but goes to Europe to stop caps on bankers bonuses."
    Regards.

I dont think Pauline loves him too much since he was caught giving Tracy one,..... or two.
I was told that Prescott had let his son, John Junior use the NUS apartment in London when there on business also it was reported by members of the V.A. John Junior who has never been a Seafaring man was sniffing around Springbok Farm in Surrey, He is a Property developer and was or is interested in taking over the farm to build houses on and make himself Richer.
Springbok Farm was given to the British Merchant Seamen by the South African Government for what they did in WW2.
It has retirement homes for Merchant Seamen and also for rehabilitation after ilness or injury.
Also since the NUS was taken over by the RMT, Bob Crow has been filling it up with Railway men. He calls in there quite a lot.
There has been several altercations with him from many members of the Vindicatrix Association when they have open days there.
So I also wonder what happened to all the assets of the NUS including many overseas properties, if John knows he is saying nothing.

    .
    Hi Jim,
I dont think the Coalition allowed Cunard to leave the British Registry. It is an American Company, Carnival, and just uses the name of Cunard so passengers think they are sailing on a Cunard Liner when they are not.
They just used the excuse of British Law not allowing passengers to get married on board their UK registered ships.
So under the Bermuda flag they can do so.
I sailed on Queen Elizabeth six months after flagging out, I asked the Purser, how many weddings had they performed, NONE was the reply, How many weddings have you got on order, NONE was the reply.
The average age of a Passenger on Cunard is over 50 plus, not many of those want to get married,
So the whole thing was a Tax Dodge.
    Cheers
    Brian.
