cheap diesel fuel anyone
Just been listening on the local news, the main fuel line from Esso Fawley has shut down, someone has nicked 30000 lites of diesel from the underground pipeline. If i remember correctly the refinery supplies the main London airports with fuel via this underground pipe line, Not sure how they achieved this theft, but will see what developes KT

Re: cheap diesel fuel anyone
It is not the Heathrow line Keith , it is the one that goes to the Esso Terminal in Birmingham , and via Sailisbury , looks like someone in west wellow , drilled a small hole in the Diesel line and took a drop out of the line . The Heathrow line is mainly Aviation Fuel ( Kerosene ) . but hey what is 30 Tonnes of diesel betwen friends

Yes I read that story 30.000 worth £40.000.The pipeline runs for 130 miles from Esso's Fawley to the Midlands. Two men were arrested in Wellow ,Hants they rented a factory unit then tapped into the pipeline. It's like something you hear of happening in Nigeria.

Re: cheap diesel fuel anyone
I got involved via the fire service on some of these pipelines while i was in Hampshire, they insert a *pig*, like a large solid football, with a radioactive centre, to seperate two different fuels, and sometimes they get stuck. We had to stand by the petroleum guys while they cut the pipe either side of the pig, put a valve in place, and extract the pig, and weld up again. very interesting to watch. This was 40 years ago, so maybe use a different system now KT

Re: cheap diesel fuel anyone
Esso Fawley, the only refinery I ever visited with a scrap yard in the middle of it. Fawley was one of our regular calls in Stolts, we actually had contracts for loading Benzene for discharge in Rotterdam, bit of a nightmare run but made o.k. by the many delays in berthing at Fawley.
Bit of a pain going ashore due to ISPS but a bus service was on call to take you through the wilds of Fawley to the main gate where taxis and local bus services were available.
Esso had shut down a number of the plants such as the lube oil plant and were slowly clearing the site of unwanted tanks and lines etc. though looking at some of the lines still in use it looked as if it was better to scrap the whole lot and start again.
Security was pretty tight but Esso forgot all about the seaward side and a number of years ago someone swam across the river, entered the refinery and put loads of "tags" on tanks etc. before swimming back.
Another great example of the uselessness of ISPS.

Those who travel a lot and value their car's engine Louis, nothing your engine enjoys more than a tankful of dodgy fuel, may not be so cheap in the end.
