Hey Terry How are things at your end, all OK I hope. Nothing wrong with Cunard Yanks, as I stand guilty as accused. The real Cunard Yanks were back in the 50's though. My Old Man was a classic - spent his whole life in Cunard and dressed to a T. I came in at the tail end of the Cunard era in 1960 onwards. A great Company to sail with.

Must have got the timing for that manoeuvre spot on, slack water, top of the tide. Bet there were some itchy bums on the bridges as they synchronised the turn being so close to each other.
An ex ship mate of mine is one of the chief pilots on the Mersey, wonder if he was on one of them?
The "One Show", 7pm on BBC1 last night devoted a lot of its time to the event, bit cheesy in parts but some good on board shots.

That's not a name I recall.
Sailing regularly to the MSC and also Birkenhead, got to know quite a few of the Liverpool pilots but I'm pretty hopeless at recalling names.
Apart from the senior pilot who I sailed with when he was 3rd mate and I was mate in C.P., the others I recall were the ACL appointed pilot John Curry, another one whose brother was the Cunard appointed pilot in Southampton and one guy who was rough as a badgers bum and was always asking for phosphoric acid samples as he claimed he needed it for cleaning stainless steel on his boat. We used to regularly take phosphoric acid to QE dock at Eastham where it went to make fertiliser's and coca cola.

The chief pilot down here for the past number of years was Stewart (or Stuart) Wood he retired just a couple of years ago.

John Curry is with Hoylake Lifeboat as the Lifeboat Operations Manager - he used to run a nautical shop in Hoylake called the Bosuns Stores and a Sailing and Nautical school next to the shop.

All is well thanks John, I hope its ditto with your crew mate seeing that you have become a woolly back , I did notice a few Cunard Yanks about the place they all have grey hair if they have any at all the Elvis Barnet's have gone, Still a few walking around the town looking like Walter Mitty, Or the pork pie hats and Al Capone long coats, Two tone suits and shoes, Prohibition still alive and well But hey mate what a great weekend, Regards John good health shipmate Terry.

I mentioned a TV programme 8pm Friday BBC1 todo with the 3 Queens,my todays paper lists Room 101 at that time I expect the 3 Queens will be on as a special show.Has anybody with a paper got it in.
