The attack was not on British and allied seamen in WW 11 it was in answer to “ why is it so hard for seamen to claim their medals. “ and the reply was that many don’t put too much stock in medals . And I still still stick by that . You in your undoubted wisdom don’t believe this. That is your Perogative . JS.
I see you also want to remain anonymous as regards your Dis. A . Book .

i saw no disgusting attack in john sabourns view on merchant seamens medals...... ......many merchant seamen never collected medals after the war ....unless they were perhaps summoned by the king certainly in my family mn medals were never collected......but ribbons were often worn....r683532....cappy

For Ribbons Cappy I think I’ve had 2 uniforms in 50 years and each time measured up and Woods in North Shields was always asked what ribbons I wanted . Any naval outfitter of years ago carried the full stock. Cheers JS

Hi Brenda. Short answer, no. I have contacted the relevant department on several ocassions and each time more informaton is required which i don't have nor will ever be able to submit.
Perhaps in the future some member of my family will be clever enough to source the in
formation required, but for me enough is enough.
I never attended Jim's funeral,perhaps that pic is from a Liverpool meet up in the Pen&Wig.

Cappy , did you ever ask the question why merchant navy personnel never followed up on their entitlement to their deserved medals, Cappy and your friend John need to work this out before your next comment. If you saw no disgusting remarks in his post i feel sorry for you .

Probably the same as my father wasn’t worth the effort , was just too. Pleased to be home after 4 years in the army. Probably considered his demob suit was medal enough. JS .

Mr Sabourn ,my father was well worth the effort, from the start to the end of the war he was there, shipwrecked, torpedoed and in 1973 killed by a massif explosion at sea .my discharge book is private but my dad and i have over 40 years in the MN

perhaps it is the average that most seamen did not feel it necessary to look for medals to wear ......when would we wear them ......as for feeling sorry for me mister ....give me your discharge book number then i will answer you.....it would appear your father never needed them.....r683532
