m.v.LADY RHODA...
Brian, from the many casualty reports that I’ve searched out/compiled over the last 5 years it looks like it could well be the following:
m.v.LADY RHODA (IMO 7035509)
(Six crew were lost when she collided with another vessel 20nm W.of Vigo.)
BUILT 4/71 by Basse-Sambre- Corcho,Santander ,(Yard No.110 ) named MALLADAS for Spanish Owners : Naviera Catalina S.A Spain.
Grt 1200
Dwt 1903
(built as a part cargo/container ship. 1977 was fitted with container guides, which I presume made her a full container ship)
Loa 76.3m
Bm 11.6m
Sold 1980 to : to Atlantic Shipping Co N.V. Neth/Antilles. Renamed LADY RHODA
Sold 1983 to O/B Andrean Shipping Ltd,Cyprus.
1989 Collision in fog 42.10N/9.20W ( c.20nm W of Vigo ) on 23.6.89 (6 crew lost) on passage Lisbon-Watchet. Collided with MELOUIA (sic) (493grt)

Many thanks for that info Davey.
That will be the one, didnt know the name of ship or that six men were lost including Captain Kuusik.
He was from an Estonian family who settled in Bolton many years ago.
So the story is now complete.
I first saw the grave in 1994 when I was at the funeral of a young 16 year old girl who overdosed on drugs and I was delivering flowers from Anne`s flower shop.
The grave has intrigued me ever since. Now I have the answer.
Thanks.
Cheers
Brian.

Now I have the name of the ship one site said the Morrocan ship, Melouia, hit the Lady Rhoda,
The Melouia was impounded & crew arrested on entering British Waters and a lengthy Inquiry was held.
Six dead, One body recovered and five missing. so I presume it was the Captains body that was recovered and returned to his family for burial in Bolton.
So far so good, an interesting event.
Thanks for all that.
Cheers
Brian.

Plenty of body in your water then Richard.
Brian.
Brian, you could say that we were plumbed into the "Corps Inter Net".

Hi Brian
As you probably have, I've tried Google and Wikipedia to find something, But I thought that maybe the MN officers group over there might know something as it looks like all his family are buried there.
Cheers Des.

Brian, just looking at that photo someone must care as the flowers are relatively fresh so should be you would think a local? Hope the mystery is solved. Would it be construed as an invasion of privacey if the cemetery was asked for contact details I wonder, would they even give them? Yesterday went to Monmarte cemetary here in Paris to see the great artist Degas grave. Must say there were some fascanating others too, one of a French pilot who had done so many 'first solo flights' in S. E. Asia after WW1. Richard

In Nusa Dua Bali, an upmarket holliday area there is an open drain of sorts with two of them meeting. Speaking with the locals I discovered that ,
This is where the effluent of the affluent meets the effulent of the ungodly. To me it all sounded like a load of crap.

Happy daze John in Oz.

First apologies to Kong for going off course on his thread but I know it will be of interest to him and I couldn't find another forum to put it in.
The BBC (Bash Britain Corporation) has announced that it will broadcast the ****** Call to Prayer live every morning on Channel 4 during Ramadan as a deliberate act of provocation aimed at viewers who associate ***** with terrorism and extremism. They will also be screening a season of programmes around ****** periods of prayer and fasting which runs from next Tuesday until August 7th.
A senior executive then goes on to say that Ramadan was of greater interest to viewers than the blanket coverage given to the 60th anniversary of the Queen's Coronation.
Ralph Lee head of factual programming said that Channel 4 would become the first mainstream British television channel to broadcast the call to prayer on a daily basis
Where on earth do we get these idiots and why are they allowed to insult our Queen and infiltrate their views on our National Channels

I am speechless for once.
To me it is like Adolf Hitler being allowed on BBC in 1942. and all this is funded by the raxpayer or licence fee payer.
The majority of them always have an old person over 75 in their address so they do not pay a licence fee.
