Captain killed in collision.

Hi ,
I was in the cemetery in Bolton, a few weeks ago, I saw a grave with a beautiful stone, it had the picture of a sailing ship on. The name of the Captain sounded a bit like a Polish name.
he was killed in collision with another ship in the Channel on my birthday 21 June, forget the year but around 1990ish. I just remembered seeing the grave and wondered what ship he was on and who he collided with. So his body must have been recovered and returned to Bolton.
I could go back to the cemetery but it is raining. I have tried on google but to no avail.

I heard that that cemetery is the dead centre of Bolton,Brian.
Personally, I really try my best to keep out of such places.

I can't really say "You wouldn't see me dead in one of those places" though ,because there's every likelihood you would!
Me being a Lancashire - bred(Hovis? ) man, Bolton(other Lancashire towns are available),the rain ,and cemeteries sound so familiar.When I was sweating it out in the Red Sea I used to dream of such homely exotica.Ah me !

The cemetery is at the bottom of Bury road, not too far from where you used to live, Davey. everyone is dying to get in there.

I will try to go this weekend and take a photo of the stone.

What an appropriate place to go(eventually)- to be buried on Bury Road.
Although I shall be opting instead to go for a burn-up on D-Day,Brian.Them wooden overcoats don't keep the soil and damp out for long tha' knows,ee bah gum lad they don't !

I am having a damp course in my coffin, and then gift wrapped for when I get to the other side,
it is an appropriate place to be buried, down Bury road and then down Cemetery road.

Does anyone know what ship and what happened to him.? please.
I am just curious I thought I knew most of the seafaring men in Bolton but not this man.
I have an idea he was killed in a collision in the Channel. but could be wrong.

Whilst you are awaiting an answer Brian; when we lived in Kinclaven, Perthshire our septic tank overflowed and we called in the local JCB operator who happened to be Polish. I went out to check on the progress only to see him almost falling off the JCB with laughter. I asked him what the heck was so funny. "I'm digging a waterdrain for Mr Quartermaine". We had a few Poles in the area from the war years and they were highly respected for their loyalty.

And 'Tomb it may concern' - In Jakarta we lived on Jalan Makam - Graveyard Road - and all our water was from a well in the grounds. Having a glass of water was so much like having a tonic it went well with Gordons Gin.
