Have to say I feel a bit of a fraud for joining but my reason is a determination to find out all I can about my late father. At the outset I must say that I never knew him and it was for a brief period that I entered into correspondence with him ... this was thanks to the Police in Glasgow who told him that I was tying to find him.
While I never got his history (dates, ships etc) I did understand that he had spent his life in the Merchant Navy. He did send me a photo, dated 1940, with him in uniform and believe he was a first officer. My mother met him on a BI (?) boat sailing to India. During WW2 he was in command (?) of a Troopship which, I understand was sunk in the Med towards the end of the war. Not a lot to go on but am very keen to know all I can about his service pre and post last war. My sons' have pressed me into starting the search again!
My service was initially in RRAF (VR) and later the BSAP (Anti Terrorist Group).
If any member can point me in the right direction to get the information I seek I will be most grateful.
