Hello From New Zealand
Hi Everyone,
I'm moved to NZ a couple of years ago from the UK and due to having a very inquisitive son, I am now doing some research on my Grandfather (John Tayler). He was in the Merchant Navy in WWII. I have found out he was on the Tuscan Star when it was torpedoed and survived. I'm trying to work out what medals he would have received so I can get some for my son to wear on Anzac Day.
Regards Jon

Can't see any information on the link posted.
This is how to interpret the medal file
The medals awarded are indicated by:
1939: 1939-1945 Star
AT: Atlantic Star
AF: Africa Star
PA: Pacific Star
BU: Burma Star
FR: France and Germany Star
WM: War Medal
IT: Italy Star
CL: Clasp
OLE: Oak Leaf
A cross (×) drawn through a symbol indicates the issue of that medal; a circle (O) drawn through a symbol indicates that only the ribbon for that medal has been issued. If a cross and a circle have been used then both a medal and a ribbon have been issued. An R sometimes appears and signifies that an application for that medal was reviewed and refused. For those trying to discover whether a medal was issued, or was an unclaimed entitlement, then the RSS should be contacted, before undertaking lengthy searches at TNA, as they have the most up-to-date records.

The document shows he was awarded and received the medals in question apart from the ribbon for the 1939-1945 War Medal. The Clasp for the Atlantic Star indicates he was involved in the D-Day landings and was awarded the France & Germany Clasp, which would of been attached to the ribbon of the Atlantic Star.
The number on the far right indicates the actual file number for his medal entitlement, which is held at the MCA in Cardiff.

Thanks for the reply DeepSea, I've managed to find a place over here in Christchurch where I can get replica's of the medals, so I shall try and get those next time I venture into the City! It's a shame I never took this much interest while I was back in the UK and my Grandad was still alive, it would have been a lot easier
