My brother and I sailed on the KENT from New on the Clyde to June 1961, six months , the best ship I ever sailed on. Saw the DERBY a few times.
    Cheers

Default SS Derby & SS Kent

I sailed on the SS Kent in 1964 and the SS Derby 1966..Stuck in drydock in Antwerp during the seamens strike of 66 after 5 months, luckily the strike ended before the end of the drydock and we paid off...Not a happy ship that trip..

I sailed on her for many trips, Isle of Grain - Mina Al A Mani, Kuwait. Problem for me was, the 36hr turn around in Grain, as I lived in Birmingham !!! no motorways or high speed trains then...Beautifull Ship, still got some of the purchases off the Bum Boats in Suez!!! No shore leave in Kuwait, at end of a pipe !!!! send me back to Kiwi Moxam PLEASE.
