    Default John George Gardiner

Good morning all. I am new to this site. I was a Bell Boy on P&O ships from Tilbury to Australia 1955/56 at 16 years of age. I look forward to restoring contact with old shipmates who may still be in the land of the living. I am 86 next month, hale and hearty thank God.

    Hi JOhn
You are about right, I think I was around 85 when cutting some bushes, there where some Council workers fixing the water tp next door, I stepped back and the next thing I was on my back, they didn't know where I had gone, I crept away to embarrassed to talk.

You were lucky Des to get away unscathed , my swan dives included at different times , a broken hip, 3 broken ribs, and 2 broken ribs. Apart from the bruising and loss of face . By what I can gather due to minor strokes if there is such a thing as minor. The hip has never been the same again and as they talked me round to staying awake during the operation to repair was aware all the time of their conversation which wasn’t very nice to hear.
The drugs they froze my bottom half with I was still having fantasies for a week after, I.e. seeing things that weren’t there , no pink elephants however. Cheers JS

    Hi John
You will never know if those drugs they gave you where for your op or for their fun while operating, my wife has told me some tall tales about Dr's from when she worked at Westmead Hospital, apparently they like a bit of fun when operating on some people, I they knew about your sea time maybe they were curious?
    Des LoL.

I,was told to go back for an internal cameras check told them if they were going to stick the camera in personal places with an audience of giggling nurses to forget about it , and they have. Think, someone may of been ham fisted the first time , everyone has their off days. Cheers JS.

Too true, i have found that i am starting t wobble a wee bit when Walking , and have to slow down some.
Now as well on the 21st i have to go for my Aged Driving Medical, which i feel should still be OK.
Then to the Age Assessment Driving Practical, that too i feel i should be OK with, but who knows !
If all fails then its a Modified Licence , around the Local Aare with a limit of 15 KM. Bleedin Heck!!

Next i will have to use my Golf Buggy around here . Oh Boy the Woes of old Age!! Damn!! LOL

But i am Happy as Larry no matter what transpires!
Just another step in ones Life! By the way JS i do actually have a Walking Stick , had it for Years but its just standing in the Bedroom idle, possibly will get its chance soooon! LOL

    Cheers

I was born in Whitley Bay in June at the start of the Second World War. I am a miracle child. I was born at home. I contracted double pneumonia and was dangerously ill. My parents stood guard over me and prayed non stop until I was fully recovered. My father was in the R.A.F. Maintaining Barrage Balloons. One day there was an air raid and my mum was about to take us to the shelter. As she stood on the backdoor step with me in her arms. An incendiary bomb fell at our feet and failed to explode. These were without doubt miracles of God’s grace in my mind.

I was an Operating Theatre Technician. We had a Nun in for a minor op. The Anaesthetist was not certain what she said as she was dropping off to sleep. It may have been Amen or Ah, men!
