Edward "Eddie" McGarvie
Hi everyone,
I am looking for people who knew my father. He was an engineer and I know he was serving in 1967 until after the 1980's. I never had a chance to meet him so I'don't love to hear about him from people who shared his love for the sea.

Put the cork back in the bottle Ron, her name is Susan, not Edward.

That's a problem as I never met him and I am not able to get much info. I know he was born in 1934 in York. I am trying to get more from my Uncle but he is not very forthcoming. He was a heavy drinker but very charming. I do have some photographs of him if there's a way to share them on here.

Hello Susana
Thanks for joining and also for the Enquiry
I hope thee may just be someone who can assist.
As far as getting any Documents for his Service that is unfortunately not possible,as he was still Serving as you say into the 80's therefore his Service Records are not available as after 1972 no Records were kept!
You can however try the Southampton Archives where there may be Records of his up to 1972 but its a long shot!
Hope that you get someone who recalls him.
Cheers

Good Morning Susana, Welcome to the site, unfortunately there appears to be scant detail of your father on two of the ancestry sites I have looked at and none regarding his MN career. Only thing I can suggest at present is appealing more to his sibling? your uncle or your half brothers. If you manage to post a photograph [s] of him on site it may jog a few memories. Will have a more in depth look this evening when I have more time, wondering did he meet your mum in Buenos Aires or UK? Knowing for sure gives me another avenue to check out.
Found this in the British Postal Service Appointment Books, 1737-1969:
Name: Edward H McGarvey
Date Appointed: Jun 1955
Place Appointed: Engineers Department
Something? rating on PO Cable ship,Engr dept
