I towed a barge across to Gothenburg from Montrose, it was at the time however that the Russians had the Nucleur Power Station explosion. Believe that was a couple of years before your fall. Seaforth Maritime of Aberdeen had a fleet of about a dozen ships, about half being straight supply and the rest with towing and rig anchor capabilities. Mostly these were of the old pelican hook method of working anchors. Nowadays with pop up pins and Sharks Jaws makes the whole job a lot easier and less dangerous. Saying that though most of the tonnage that came out here was the tossed out ones from the North sea, so in some cases was back to square one when rig shifting, fortuanetly the weather was usually better than the North sea. Cheers John S.

Re.. Shipboard accidents.. Was an article in the paper here the other day that a lascar seaman (they called him an Indian crew member) had lost his leg in Port Hedland. Stood in the bight of the tow rope when berthing. Was interviewed and had just been married, said he didnt want to go back to India without his leg. Thought at the time this would of brought a response from most seamen, that they would parcel it up and he could take it with him. However I was a bit more selective in my thinking and immediately thought of Mary, however him just being married put most romantic equations out of sight, unless of course his new wife throws him out coming home with just one leg. It may just happen if they were opposing legs they would make a good couple, might let Cappy off the hook, although would still be a loss of income, but beleive her running costs are now getting exorbidant. Cheers JS

######well john knowing poor mary sods law would say the salors leg lost was on theopposit side to marys when they both took there legsoff they would fall overthe only answer would be to do it the sailors way....they bothfaced the same way and each balanced the other ......but bloody hell mary could come of the game ...think of the benefits they would both have together financially......but cant figuure if the opened a bordello and jake the peg came .......what would happen with4 proper legs and 3 wooden legs ....what a tangle that would be...when somebody said .right get your leg over ......just to keep this nautical i shall say this happened on a ship ...capy
