Default Merchant Navy sea of golden pennies

Doc, opened up the said article, ships looked as though the ones like Brian and self claimed are floating around with no one on Bridge. Maybe they should get a bigger dog so could see over the taffrail. What a load of crock. Should tell you how ships are manned for starters, obviously what is probably considered a good PR company. Certainly wouldnt attract me, however probably know too much about the game for their liking. However can see why a youngster might be pulled in, how long he stayed however is debateable. Cheers John Sabourn.

    Default Join the Navy

    Danny,

Am out of very out of touch with today's UK Merchant Marine but if it is anything like the one in the US I would say the Navy is the best bet for a married man.

Merchant ships world wide are undermanned with little time in port often at out of the way horrible docks. About all you can depend on is a Seaman's Mission.

As many have written being married is harder then being single at sea even though sea time is much shorter now.

    Default John,

Just thinking back to the days when your sub ran out and you had one last night ashore [Tarpauline Muster} There was always one that would shirk it and he stood out like a sore thumb. He could peel an orange in his pocket Terry.

Oh how times have changed. On most cruise ships, and I have been told on some container ships, wives travel with their men. Very often both will be employed and get married cabins to use. I can think of some 'married couples' on UCL who would have given their right arm for that.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.

I never took the wife to sea, it was bad enough being at home of leave with her.

There were a lot of Domestic issues with some wives at sea.
But not all, as some were really good and made a difference and a pleasure to sail with.
But some of them were horrible and embarassing in the bar lounge with their behaviour.
I could write a few stories of some of them.
