Hugh, I now have on my machine scans of 10 pages of my father's records from the seaman's pouch at Kew. All from BT 372/0658
I cannot see how to post them onto the forum site and am wondering if I should add them as an article. The forum site would become very full very quickly if everyone posted all their scans on it I am sure. I would find it easier to mail them!
I am not too computer savvy so it is probably easy but I am just missing it. I'll get there eventually.
Perhaps I'll send an email to Brian.

I don't know if what I want to send is too large. I did try to send 10 pages but only 5 appear to have been accepted. I will try the other 5 pages but if there is a problem then I will wait until this evening for help on how to make it all smaller. Jim

Well, now I have surprised myself I'll do the rest.
I hope that by posting these pages, things are clarified to enable Hugh or anyone else to make sense of my previous messages.
The only thing I would say is that these pages appear the right way up to read on my screen but have appeared on the post sideways on. Jim

Well, Jim, the images are too small to make out the actual detail but I can tell you that you have both his Discharge Book and his CRS 10 there. So it looks like you need to go with the crew agreement for SOUTHGATE to move this one on. If you wish to send the images to my email I will take a proper look at them for you.

Jim sent me the above attachments and I have had a good look through them. Unfortunately there are no other clues as to why the first entry is 16/1/1944 at the MNRP then joining SOUTHGATE on 2/2/1944. I was hoping to find a CR2 card which would have had his foreign going ships detailed by official number but unless it is with his COMNO pouch then we need to go to Plan B.

So, Jim, Plan B.
At the National Archives, Kew get hold of his COMNO pouch held in BT 391/56/39 If you are very lucky there may be a CR2 card within but I very much doubt it as it would be in the standard pouch if anywhere, but you never know.

To find out what ship he was aboard prior to SOUTHGATE you need to look at her crew agreement for 1944 which is held at Kew in piece BT 381/2906 under the ship's official number, 149746. Usually, in the agreement, is noted the name of the seaman's previous ship and armed with that information you can backtrack through each ship's crew agreement working all the way back until you get to his first ship [given a bit of luck].

Many Thanks for looking through the pages for me. I will be returning to Kew and will let you know how I get on. I am sure there must be others out there like me but although the Kew staff are very helpful, I guess it is having specialised interest/knowledge that is key.
