searching: H.M.S.London crew, m. schofield
hello, was hoping someone out there could help me locate a crew member, back when i was alot younger between 1975 - 1980, i was given a sailors hat by a crew member of the H.M.S London. the ship was docked here in the U.S, maybe even on the canadian side. i did live in the state of michigan, as well as pennslyvania at that time. my father at the time work for a major retail store then and was having a company picnic. somehow he heard that you could go an take a few crew members, and host them for the day, so he invited two sailors, i can remember picking them up, they were all dressed in their uniforms. from what i remember of the day they had a fun day, bunch of good food, games to participate in, they seemed to have a good time. i think one even won a door prize, a tv i think. but to get to my problem, one of the sailors gave me his hat, it's a white flat top with a black band on the bottom. it has a black ribbon tied in a bow on the left side with gold print on the front that says, H.M.S.London. the sailor did sign his name along with a set of letter/numbers on it. i've tried searching on the internet but havent had any luck. unfortunately i don't know his first name, he signed it...
M.Scofield
and the other print was...
p147109w.(an arrow followed this pointing to the right), the first letter ( p ) could possibly be a ( d ) instead
does anyone know of a way for me to try and find this person? please send responses to...
iluvrocnro@hotmail.com
my name is keith robinson
thank you

A particualr Year ???
Hello Keith R
Firstly Welcome to this great site!
This request is one that will pose some probs i feel,as first up we will need to try and whittle down to a particular Year!
Given only 1975 to 1980 does leave a lot to search for!
I am not certain about Crew lists for the RN but i am sure there are others here who will more than likely know!
The name of course will help a lot,jus a pity that he never signed his first name as well!
Also the Number i am sure will assist and with luck all will fall into place at some future stage!
So for now try and think,an get to a particular Year, that will be a good start!
All the best, and i hope you will one day find as the sayibg goes "A needle in a Haystack"
Cheers
Not sure if you can ask here!

Hello Keith and welcome,
"p147109w.(an arrow followed this pointing to the right), the first letter ( p ) could possibly be a ( d ) instead"
I can tell you that the above is his official or service number and I can also tell you that the first letter is a D' - D147109W
The Data Protection Cell (Navy), I think there is little point in going down this road.
I suggest your best bet is in the Forces Reunited network. Forces Reunited - Find Army Friends, Find RAF Friends, Find Navy Friends I note that HMS LONDON has just over 800 past crew members registered.
I well remember visiting the US on the carrier 'ARK ROYAL' in 1979 and appreciated the hospitality shown to me by local people.
Regards
Hugh
