No,I,m John Charles Fredrick,it,s a family thing, but my son is David William. Another thing I remember about S/Shields was that as I played rugby for Monkseaton Grammer School I was pleased to learn that they played rugby at Shields, what a let down, nobody was interested and just fooled about on the field. That was the end of that. I had a few interviews with local shipping companies, Daglish, Stag Line, Port Line(which involved a trip to London and overnight stay on a Port ship ) don,t know how that happened. It was the night Craig and Bentley shot PC Miles on a roof in London. 2nd Nov. 1952 How things stay in the memory and some just vanish.

UK tuition fees vary depending on your home country. For home students, English universities can charge up to a maximum of £9,250 per year for an undergraduate degree. That is not tax payers money . University , political hot beds , when were they not political hot beds.

#11 you must have known Atkinson then as believe he was educated at Monkseaton Grammar School , that was the private one in Holywell avenue wasn’t it ? I delivered papers at one time in that street. JS
As regards interviews with local companies , the personnel manager for Walter Runcimans rolled up at the school and said I want so many apprentices and got myself , Craig Walwyn, Carl Davison, and self as said. Think Chapmans did the same. I sailed with Dalgliesh in later years as mate before going foreign flag. After coming home one time Stag line phoned up and offered job , but couldn’t match my previous salary . They offered all sorts of home comforts including they were a family concern and looked after their employees, a few months later they ceased to exist. So much for shipowners promises , they must have known the score at the time as well. Cheers JWS....

    Hi John
The Liberal Govt over here got rid of many public servants and hired in Consultants, it wasn't to save money as they are dearer for the taxpayer, it was to stop the true Public Servants from leaking the rorts carried out by the Politicians, many of which are now coming to light, unfortunately the present Labour Govt still have many of them, probably for the same reason.

There was at the Uni we worked in a Dean of Engineering.
He began as a student in the local high school then went onto the local tech school.
From there a position as a work space operative, what ever that was at the time.
From there to a position as head of the mechanical division of the Tech school.
From there to become a lecturer in mechanics.
Eventually becoming Dean of the faculty.
But in all this time never held a real job, and certainly knew very little about engineering.

It was reported at one time that he had a very brown nose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Well I thought that the education in Aus has been going down the drain but it appears the same in the UK.
Yesterday we watched a game called Tipping point from the UK, . A young girl of about 25 was asked this question.
Which war was fought the furthest back in History. The Battle of Britain? The Battle of Waterloo? Or the Battle of Hastings?
Her reply, I know that the Battle of Hastings was around the 18th Century, I have never heard of the Battle of Britain, and I think the Battle of Waterloo was after Hastings, she got it right but the wrong date, She is lucky the Battle of Britain took place else she would be speaking German.
