    Default Different road rules

The posting about give way rules at sea prompted me to put this one on.

Road deaths continue to be a problem here in Oz, each year more than the last are killed.
Much of course is the manner in which pupils ae taught, mainly by family and friends who pass on all their bad habits.

But Queensland, where else, has come up with a wonderful plan.
So simple we all wonder why it has taken to long to arise.

Heer in Oz driving license's are only issued for ten years, then you pay again.

But the smart ones up north have devilish plan.
When your license is up for renewal you will have to sit the test again.
This will reduce the road toll cried the minister for something or other, not commonsense though.

So you do the test again, be very careful and obey all the rules,
Whooppee you get your new license, then off you go again like a prize prat and go back to your normal habits on the road.

Only Queensland could have dreampt this one up, but it does get hot up there, the sun you know can do funny things to the brain.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.

Rule 19 used to be the shortest rule out of the 32 John. When two power driven vessels are crossing so as to cause risk of collision , the one which has the other on her own starboard side shall keep clear of the other. The maritime rule of the road in most cases has a close Enfinity with the British Road System. JS

When 2 lights you see in front Full Ahead and ram the punt .

And the one showing the red is his duty to maintain his course and speed . It’s when he panics and does something stupid that problems arise , and there are a lot of stupid people at sea today . They would rather rely on the vhf and discuss with each other what they were going to do , The vhf in a lot of cases should be treated the same as radar was at one time , an Aid to Navigation . Cheers JS

If in danger, or in doubt, slow her, stop her, go about.
Green to green, red to red, perfect safety, go ahead.

I think it is time they put Green and Red sidelights on cars out here, the number of deaths from people driving on the wrong side of the road is increasing. Unless it is in influx of all the foreigners used to driving on the right. I'm glad I can now only drive 5 Kilometers and the speed limit in town is 50, make that forty with traffic.

Johnno. When I went to Oz in 1986 and spent 6 months of the year there for 13 years, I bought a Mitsubisi Campervan, I had driven for twenty years automatic transmission cars. Here I was, getting ready to pick it up at the dealership in Cairns, Queensland, capital. of the deep North. A manual transmission, stick shift on the steering column, right hand side drive on the left side of the road and dirt track or a single strip of Bitumen with a packed dirt strip either side, and Roadtrains. Roadtrains being oversized body and power system truck cabs hauling three oversized doble decker trailers of live stock. Combined about 200 feet doing 80 miles and hour and owning the single strip of of bitumen, yet still blowing up a cloud of dust that took about 10 mins to settle. this meant move off of to the far side of the dirt road, stop, don't move until the dust settle in case there are two of them.

I hate driving and both my wives loved it. Except in Oz and the UK.. I had to do the driving there. And guess what, I'm stuck with a stick shift now.

Lucky thing was the auto dealer explained what to do if we could see a roadtrain. Driving in Oz was not for the faint of heart.

So Johnno, remember I am an honorary "Banana Bender" and Queensland became my second home, and I loved it..

    Cheers, Rodney

#7, Des, As from this Sunday I believe, all drivers in built up areas in Wales will only be allowed to travel at 20mph regardless of time of day or night.

Happening too in Scotland very soon.

#8, Rodney my hubby used to say I would make an excellent ''getaway driver.''
No mad rush now so just take my time.
