Well i guess in the fleshpots of the world many of us saw mad cows .....one particular i remember in bettys bar in glasgow .....whacked me with her umbrella and called me a sasanach barsteward...but just a warning to people with dogs ......as while walking his dog across a field ....the dog on the leash ...a guy from my village was knocked down and trampled on ....resulting in broken ribs and internal injuries ......im sure most dog owners alread know this .....it is qhite a common occurance and folk are killed annualy in the uk ....cappy

Sure is Cappy, and when they have a young calf they can be dangerous, dog or no dog.

Well if it was the one we carried from General Terminus to. Liverpool as passenger in the Pilots cabin ,on the Beechwood, if it was her calf was not my doing as was too closely watched by the master who was always appearing on the bridge at some Weird times . JS.

Hi Cappy.
That reminded me about when I worked in a brewery in Auckland. The owner had an island in the Manaku Harbour. my boss took me over there to do some work, I opened this gate to a big field full of cows as I walked in they started to walk towards me, I turned and ran for the gate, they also started to run, next thing it was a charge. Always been wary of cows since, it was a bit like Ma Gleason's.

Cows, well never get near a Sow with piglets.
Working on the Pig farm my dad was involved with and I got into the sty where one was.
She only got one bite out of my ankle but it could have ben a lot worse, they can get vicious.

But then I do recall there was a female MP who suffered from Mad Cow diease.

Most of us might remember when the UK was a rabies free country, until someone decided to build a Chunnel. And we all know who that was. Very nice at the time for those who wanted to shoot off to the South of France for the weekend I suppose , but also very convenient for unwanted visitors immediately. Male, Female, 2 legged, 4 legged , slitherers and sliders, spiders and all types of animal carrying diseases. And of course the poor old dog whose bite was worse than his bark. JS

Cappy, Betty's bar long gone I am afraid, on Friday afternoons when doing my Seconds ticket, at Glasgow Naughty Collage 1975/6, we used to bunk off early and go to Betty's bar shame its gone now. It was demolished in the 90s having survived from the middle 1800's.

What about the 101 club at the top end of the Glasgow main drag , not sure the name maybe Sauchielle Street ? Used to call it a night club ! JS

Yes,standing by a newbuild in Clydebank in the 70's I made a point of visiting Betty's.Just the once,well maybe twice ! It never appeared in The Shoregoer's Guide to World Ports (ha ha!),of which I still have a copy,bought off Amazon in a fit of nostalgia I had many years ago,and well out of date,particularly the maps,but I could still sort of 'retrace my younger stronger purposeful footsteps...It was published by the SES (Seafarers Education Service),so naturally it was full of exciting information for the saintly God fearing,brylcreemed,freshly shaved ,polished-halo,religious seafarer who wished to partake of Holy communion at St.Francis of Assisi's Cathedral,visit the post office to send all of his hard-earned cash to Mum,or go and visit the local carpet or pencil museum.All of those,rather than take his wonga ashore and troll down the dockland road in search of Sweaty Betty's Saloon,or the other venues,passed down by word of mouth frm generations of sailors-Betty's Bar,Clancy's-was that Yokohama?,Danny's Bar in Antwerp,the bars of Bugis Street in Singapore,or a modern Japanese bar in the Motomachi in Kobe with names like Saucy Suki's Pussycat Sailor's Recreation Rooms.-attentive company guaranteed,with two drinks free-yours a watered-down whisky and for your girl Michiko,a pseudo brandy which was actually cold tea-all at an eye-watering sum of dollars,plus a sky high entry fee which went straight into Mama san's ample kimono folds for her retirement fund.Who cared that it was three day's wages,after all we were going to be back at sea for three weeks sailing to Mena al Ahmadi,or some such place,so could save up again ! Ee,what a life it was!.......we were so young,and we loved it !

#10 Any similarity between the winking pretentious blond wo (man) and Boris is purely coincidental. As the Adam’s apple is not in sight , and the lipstick could be off the tomato juice bottle. Thought Clancy’s was in Kobe, must be getting forgetful , having being ejected from there one tries to forget .
