Re: Dave Allen, comedian
Back in 1953 I think, as a cadet on the "HEATHMORE" in Belfast we saw a very young comedian by the name of Dave Allen giving a great show. Only thing I remember from our stay in Belfast

Those guys looked at life in reality and saw the funny side of every day life, in todays society they would be off to the Tower never to be seen again.
Vale the real comedians.
As I said they got away with politicial and religious things no others woudl of or could have. Wish they were still touting ttheir humor and bringing some sense of reality to real, life.

Re: Dave Allen, comedian
Hard to believe with the standards of today but that show from the 70's, 'Love thy Neighbor, was repeated here on Oz TV last year for two seasons.
White Honkeys and you Black fellas made us all laugh.
Wonder if the generation of toady would see the funny side of it?

Re: Dave Allen, comedian
There was another one I remeber growing up... There was a group of immigrants in an English language class, don't remember what it was called though. And let's not forget Benny Hill there was a rerun of these here in the early hours on some obscure tv channel a while back or Kenny Everett.

Re: Dave Allen, comedian
Shaun, it was called 'Mind your language'.
Poor old benny Hill, it was Ben Elton who had him banned from TV in the end.
Then we had Steptoe and Son, both of whom were said to be gay as was Benny hill and his side kick.
But who cares what their sexual preferences were they made us laugh, and good laughs at that.

#17... Is that the same Ben Elton gracing the Australian television with his presence John. ? If so I think he’s as funny as a heat rash around the genitals. JS.

Re: Dave Allen, comedian
It is the same one John.
There have been a number of reasons given for his wanting Benny off, everything from too sugestive to being a bad influence on the young.
The real reason I doubt we will ever know, but there have been inferences that he is very anti gay.
