Putin's aim for years has been the recreation of the dissolved Soviet Union and to that end he wants old the Eastern bloc countries under his control.
NATO for years has been disfunctional, Putin has managed to unify NATO and forced its members to increase spending.
To blame NATO for the war is disengenious.

You don't have to worry, our Pres. could sit this one out, and remember Trump, if he had won, the US would have been out of NATO and we could sit the thing out legally, then being on your own would make you happy right? If Putin comes for your oil patch, or nice harbors, would you be the first to say "Where's the USA" or would you gird up your loins, and tackle the Russian bear on your Todd?...Right!

And suppose If China had started a march through the Philippians on and into New Guinea and the US said that's not our war, would Aussies be happy and go it alone? No mate, they'd be singing "Over here, over Here, for the Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming....."

Nobody wants us until THEY are in the brown stuff, and expect it to be paid for by the US tax payer. Forget the Yanks that get killed and wounded, that don't count, what counts is that you are expected to bare a fair share of the cost and that's unfair?

I luv this site and my years in the MN. When someone knocks the USA, and the USA appears at fault, and they are fair, knowledgeable, impartial, I more than likely will agree. I do not agree on my country right or wrong, but when someone spouts a load of b.s. and forgets, other than the war of Independence and 1812, we've been allies. Guess what mate, someone tries to have a go at your country, the USA will be "over there". You can go to the bank on it.

    Very sensible reply Rodney
As has been said do not forget the good old USA when it comes to the Push, as Allies (Thank Goodness) and with many other Nations as well , i am sure that Australia will be quite well cared for in time of War, but let us hope and Pray that it never comes to that and we can remain to live a life of Peace and Harmony as we are at present and alongside with the USA and other Allies!

Australia is a very large Land .but unfortunately has nowhere near the Capacity of Arms and Personnel needed for any large scale attack from whoever!

I do love this Land as it has given me a lot of what i would not have had, but know too well that we are a very sparsely Militarised Country for its sheer size!

    Be Happy !!

The war was not about selling gas.
NATO did Not push Putin into a corner.
The war is all about Putin's desire to recreate the old USSR.

With ref to his mention of putting his nuclear weapons on alert. This could very well be a ploy to see the movements of any nuclear weapon carrying boomers in port and any haste to get them to sea. There are not many secrets today of troop movements and naval movements of shipping without being noted by the infamous spy in the sky whose birthdate was sometime in the 60s and has had another 60 years to get seatime and further advancement in its capabilities. No doubt the Russians as well as other countries who have the deterrent will be very well up in their knowledge of the patrol positions of these so called keepers of the peace. So the mentioning of nucleur arms may just be a ploy or idle interest to see what the opposition has in the offing just another facet in war to know your enemy. The showmanship of North Korea comes at the right time , maybe one of the boomers in his area should also fire a test rocket to show he will be squashed like a bug in a rug at anytime if he doesn’t manage his manners a bit better. If the world has to finish up as molten ash with no life form , let them know before we all die , who was the cause of it. God if there is one may just decide to let the world continue to spin in space for a few hundred millenniums before retrying Adam and Eve and the Serpent and not forgetting the Apple , and try a different life form. Cheers JS
PS maybe the new lifeform would be more adaptible to the most definite climate change that there would of course be , no arguments from me about the climate change then . JS

As to his desire to want the old USSR back .There are probably many more like him in Russia who desire the same. JS

Rodders mate, while I tend to agree with your argument, and it is sound, there have been occasions when the USA in a recession has used a war to get out of that.
A war creates work for many, manufacturing of armaments etc goes up and can soak up some of the unemployed.

But on this occasion Biden is correct to stay away, Putin would no doubt love a war with USA, remembering that the Vietnam war was between Russia with the North and USA with the South, Vietnam was just the battle ground.

But Putin must in some way be brought to heel, if not there is no knowing how far he will go.

Though on our news lunch time a Russian diplomat said they had reached the point they wished to be at where they now had the two small section in their control.
There is also talk of a referendum to ask the people how much of Ukraine should Russia hold.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Despite the cries of foul, Putin won a landslide election, bull dust I hear many people saying, led by that person of truth Murdock. That the Russian people don't want war is a given, alongside every other sensible person. But I again ask why the hell that comedian in charge of the Ukraine pushed so hard to get into Nato, when it was so obvious, like Turkey, they didn't want him, there is something not right there that we are not being told.
