methinks it is probably a 'window tax' as under new legislation your Council Tax can now be adjusted to included amenities, such as gardens, sheds, greenhouses and 'views'!

I can never get my head around the UK system of what we here in Oz call rates, council tax to you.

The Poll tax is the fairest by any means, but the UK level of tax is about twice to three times what we pay here.

However if you own more than one property you will be liable for land tax on top of the rates, but it varies state to state.
Rates arte based on the rental value less costs associated with that rental.

We have a three bedroom house with three other rooms plus bathroom, ensuite etc on about a 900 meter block.
My brother in law in UK has a two up two down on land half the size and pays almost twice what I pay.
As seniors we do get a discount of $150 a year which makes mine for this year just over $1500, or about 750GBP.

As to rentals Lewis, if you own a property and rent it out you are allowed to claim on your tax for the cost of all maintanance of the property, and pay the rates and water rate less consumption cost.
If however you leases the property the person leasing has to pay those costs.

Another brother in law living in London within the City of Westminster claims they have some of the lowest level council tax in UK.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

I'm glad you explain that John because I was struggling . I think the government's got plenty to do in this country with brexit never mind worrying about window taxes I had spotted Keith mistake and thought that as Keith has a very good sense of humour I would seize his mistake and yell " Quelle Horreur "

Cappy, You seem to have a notion that your council tax is spent on Junkies, Bums, Alcoholics, And just about every other low life in Britain, No council wants to raise council tax, Unfortunately with all there services having been cut to the bone they have no choice they still have Social Care, Schools, And many other services to provide you and me with as raising income tax is a no no, Where else does the money come from.
