British Pensions
Most know how the NHI pension works in UK and the various letters that people have been putting into the government since 2003. Small piece in the local free paper today where they have had their first win. To claim a pension one has to have 10 years paying stamps.
An 87 year old self funded retiree has received a lump sum of more than 100,000 dollars as Back payment of an age payment, plus a 750 dollars a month part pension. This will open the door to the estimated 750,000 British. Pensioners living in Australia. Whilst not really needing will start checking my own figures, can always give it to charity, which always begins at home. JWS

Re: British Pensions
When we left UK it was 20 years payment required for a full pension, I had 19.
When they came to pay the rate had moved up to 40 years so we only get about half.
How does it work now?

Re: British Pensions
If you haven't applied for a pension then you should now do so. The same as this elderly lady you may be due for some back payment. Also a small pension. As long as you can remember your NHI number will be in your dis, book, jws

Re: British Pensions
don't know how they work it out, I was always in good paying work (after leaving the water) so I am thinking some sort of earnings related supplement, like I used to get when between jobs on the pancrack.

Re: British Pensions
Think this was discussed in a previous post... I retired officially in 2002. Had paid into NHI for 40 plus years, self employed NHI stamps when necessary. The pension on retiring was about 70 pounds a week, was told I could pay over 3000 pounds and get a full pension which was just over a pound a week more. You didn't have to be an Einstein to work it out, so said no thank you would take it as was. From the day you retire your pension remains static. I am still on 70 pounds a week. It could have been say 71 pounds a week for an outlay of over 3000 pounds. I see according to Brexit one of the conditions of those who chose to live in Europe are still going to get the UK pension rises as they occur. When the UK government come looking for trade deals. This should be brought up. Anyone who opened the post on UK pensions will see that they have a comic approach to same. The uk government played unfair on this one and are probably trying to hold out until all the oldies who have been short changed in the Commonwealth countries are dead and cease to be a burden. If you live in Europe you should on Brexit be treated exactly the same as elsewhere. Another stupid mistake made by politicians working for themselves. Previous claims by pensioners have been ignored with the connivance of the European Parliament who are a bunch of shysters soon to be shown the door. There will be no excuses then.
