Wine
Now as someone who still enjoys a tipple, I see that our biggest import of wine by far is Italy followed by France, now I would not touch anything French, even their crappy cars, but from now on I will not drink Italian wine under any cercumstanses . It will be Chilean, Australian or NZ, South African. Maybe if we all gave a little thought to where our stuff comes from, at least we could have satisfaction. I know the French have always been that way with our produce, burning lamb, refusing, even against EU law, to eat our beef etc, kt

Re: Wine
I have NEVER had a drink of french, italian , german etc wine. I always buy Australian, NZ, South African and also Chilean as they assisted us in the Falklands war.
I only help those who helped us in WW2, never traded with the enemy who are still the enemy.
I NEVER Buy anything from Europe.

Re: Wine
Few countries actually export it's best wine, Never a fan of French wine apart from when I have been there, buying at a Chateau en vrac is a must, sample, taste and buy, exactly what you like most. Italian wines are among the best. Years ago discovered a wine called BSE in Portugal. Delicious. Where ever you travel have a taste of several, select what you like. Greece, Cyprus and Malta have some great wines. A pick of the home-grown crop could include a pinot noir from Worcestershire or a dry white from Devon.
Mention English wine and most people think of fizz. But still wine production in England has also come a long way in the last 20 years, particularly in Kent, Surrey and Essex.

Re: Wine
Charlie you are on to fortified wines, nothing wrong with that, shows you have bloody good taste though. Galway Pipe Grand Tawny 12 year old Port is named after Governor Sir Henry Galway, governor of South Australia from 1914-1920. Governor Galway was a frequent visitor to the winery and on each visit he would conduct a tasting of the finest "pipes" As said above the best way is to taste locally and find the best, not been to Oz myself yet, but thanks to the Governor have sampled this one much.
