Re: Captured moments
Prostate Cancer kills more men than Breast Cancer kills women. But while there is plenty of assistance for ladies there is little information for men.
Mamograms are readily available here in Oz with plenty of information regarding the needs for it and the dangers of not.
No such for men.
So I tell as many men as I can, have a regular PSA test.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Potassium is an essential nutrient used to maintain fluid and electrolyte balance in the body.
Potassium is the third most abundant mineral in the body and is a required mineral for the function of several organs including the heart, kidneys, brain and muscular tissues.
Potassium also plays an important role in keeping the body hydrated and works with sodium to support cellular function with your bodies sodium-potassium pump.
Potassium deficiency symptoms can include severe headaches, dehydration, heart palpitations and swelling of glands and tissues.
Also, potassium deficiency can lead to:
•Fatigue
•Irritability
•Muscle cramps
•Weight gain
•Increased blood pressure
•Cellulite buildup
The main culprits that can cause low levels of potassium are endurance cardiovascular exercise without proper hydration, vomiting, diarrhea and a diet low in fruits and vegetables.
Unless you are on dialysis, or have a special condition, overdose of potassium from natural sources is rare; however, it is possible to consume too much potassium via potassium salts which can lead to nausea and vomiting.
Potassium from natural food sources, like the ones listed below, are considered safe and healthy. The RDA for potassium is 4700 mg/day. The current percent daily value for potassium is 3500 mg/day.
Consuming these 3 servings of this high potassium foods list daily to ensure optimal levels of potassium.
Top 10 Potassium Rich Foods List
1) Avocado
1 whole: 1068 mg (30% DV)
2) Spinach
1 cup: 839mg (24% DV)
3) Sweet potato
1 medium: 952 mg (27% DV)
4) Coconut Water
1 cup 600 mg (17% DV)
5) Kefir or Yogurt
1 cup: 579 mg (15% DV)
6) White Beans
½ cup: 502 mg (15% DV)
7) Banana
1 large: 422 mg (12% DV)
8) Acorn squash
1 cup: 899 mg (26% DV)
9) Dried apricots
½ cup: 755 mg (22% DV)
10) Mushrooms
1 cup: 428 mg (27% DV)
Potassium Health Benefits
Cramps
One of the main benefits of consuming high potassium foods is decreased muscle cramping and improved muscle strength. Muscle cramps are a common side effects of low potassium levels. This can happen if an athlete becomes dehydrated and isn’t consuming enough potassium rich foods before and after exercise.
Reduced Risk of Stroke
Several observational studies have found that those with high potassium levels experience a lower risk of stroke. The health benefits of potassium are likely through reduction of blood pressure combined with a diet high in fruits and vegetables.
Alleviation of High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
Studies show that a diet high in potassium, especially potassium from fruits and vegetables, lowers blood pressure. This is especially true if the increase in potassium foods is not accompanied by an increase in high sodium foods.
Reduced Cellulite Appearance
One of the main causative factors of cellulite buildup is fluid retention. Most people consume far too much sodium and not near enough potassium. Sodium brings nutrients into your cells where potassium helps flush excess waste out of your cells. For this reason, if you reduce sodium intake and start consuming potassium rich foods you can reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Osteoporosis Protection
Several studies have found a relation between increased bone density and increased intake of dietary potassium. These studies were true even for post- menopausal women and older men.

Re: Captured moments
I'm a four a nighter too, always have been. Two trips a night as a kid. Doctors treated me for years for prostatitis, for no avail, constant pain. about fifteen years ago I found a new specialist and he diagnosed an enflamed bladder neck, sure as heck, the pain went with correct medication. Then periodically it came back, I had to take a bladder test, the most painful thing I have ever endured. The neck to the bladder all scarred up and almost closed. Had that fixed and it ain't fun, but told it would grow back again and I have an unusually small bladder neck...goes well with one kidney, one and a half eye vision all congenital.
Johnno, I and my wife can still wear our wedding clothes (31 years this year). I think I posted two photos, one on our wedding day in Oz. (Tennant Creek at the Devil's Marbles) and our thirtieth anniversary wearing our same wedding outfits. My waist is 33inches, weight this a.m. 151 lbs starko. but I'm 1 3/4 inches shorter than my M.N. days, I was 1/4 inch short of six feet, never made it with out stretching. Now, I have to work at staying slim, or work-out that is. Every day floor exercises and a ten mile bike ride, my wife works out too, just a different regime. We enjoy it, it's part of our lifestyle, and we avoid salt and food we don't have control over, big macs etc..
My wife is terrible to go shopping with, she not only reads ingredients, salt, sugar, (she's hypoglycemic so minimal sugar) and bad fats on new products she checks current ones because the change the ingredients. I swear I think she would inspect the toilet paper instructions if they printed it on the packaging. Just joking, the results are we both can see our toes when standing up and we don't have to move two steps into a room so the door doesn't hit us in the bum.
Oh. My doctor said with men, "If we live long enough we will all die from prostate cancer." Morbid thought, but I guess true.

Re: Captured moments
Hi Rod.
For the last ten years every three months trip to the Dr my weight has been the same 80 kilos or 13 stone in the old money, blood pressure 152/52, PSA 1.8 climbing so slow he said I will be 150 before it reaches the point it was when I started therapy. I don't exercise but told him I do most of the house work, he said using the vacuum cleaner once a week is one of the best workouts you can have. I eat very little fruit, the odd banana I like them, we buy a lot of fruit and my wife eats plenty, I think I'm too lazy to bother. I eat plenty of salt which is supposed too be bad for you but maybe my makeup is different .
Cheers Des
