Re: rail unions
#142, Hi Terry, are you sure the Thomas Tank engine is for your grandson
as my dad bought me a Loco and a couple
of goods waggons with a circle of track, this was for my tenth birthday 1949 and it was a Hornby 00 gauge. By 1950 my
two sisters had got married and being a large house we had rooms to spare, dad got hold of an old billiard table from
somewhere and he stripped it down cut it in half then rejoined it with a 4' gap in the middle, this was to be the base of
a railway layout that turned out to be a bit special. Dad turned the billiard table into a landscape with roads and a small
Hamlet with a pond the trees and hedgerows were made of wire wool dipped in glue then sprinkled with sawdust and
painted, even my brother in law, a policeman, became obsessed with it and they were always adding to the stock and
accessories. In 1955 when I went on the Vindi mum and dad moved to a smaller house just across the road, and the
billiard table had to go so the trains and accessories was boxed up and sadly never re assembled. Today I have the
engines, stock and track in cases in my attic, express engines with Pullman and ordinary carriages, Locomotives with
freight waggons all original late 40s-mid 50s Hornby 00 gauge made of diecast metal and tin, they are all collectors
pieces now, as todays stuff is all made of plastic, it's amazing really how things turn out. cheers JC

Re: rail unions
On a train from London to Manchester an American was berating the Englishman sitting across from him in the compartment. "You English are too stiff. You set yourself apart too much. You think your stiff upper lips make you above the rest of us. Look at me... I’m me. I have Italian blood, French blood, a little Indian blood and some Swedish blood. What do you say to that?"The Englishman replied, "Very sporting of your mother."

Re: rail unions
Q: How many conservative economists does it take to change a light bulb?
A1: None. If the government would just leave it alone, it would screw itself in.
A2: None, because, look! It's getting brighter! It's definitely getting brighter!
A3: None, they're all waiting for the unseen hand of the market to correct the lighting disequilibrium.

I wont vote for the present leader of the Labour party because I like a lot of other people know his background. In my opinion he doesn't have the moral disposition to be the leader of a country. This doesn't necessary say I will vote for his opposite number. I voted for his predecessor as believe he was the man for the job at the time and he was, I think Turnbull for all his charm doesn't appeal to me until he achieves something and stops thinking he is doing a good job smiling into the camera. I think both the main parties are both going to find out at the next election that they are not the main parties anymore. The people as usual will tell them how good they are. Cheers JS
John, maybe if more countries had an award system similar to ours things may be a lot different.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: rail unions
In some ways, doubt if I need an employer, if I did, I would steer away from anything without a union.
Until, workers have the same rights and conditions that Parliament assumes, there is and will never be justice for workers.
We are told that we should live within our means, they claim mortgage payments, rent, council charges, utility bills, food, transport, TV licence and even their children on expenses and expect us to pay for it How is that living within your means ?
NOT ON YOUR NELLY !

Utter garbage: can these self made, educated people, not watch, read, follow the news ? If there are no trains, why go to the station ? You say plan your life ! Then certain, making alternative travel arrangements is not rocket science ? There are no trains on Christmas day, not much of a party if any one turns up just to have a moan. Company car share may help ?
