Do you Guys also pay Registration and Full Comprehensive ! Or just the actual Car Value Insurance cost!?

We are slugged with with all of them, plus on Cars over 5 Years old one has to get a Pink Slip I think known there as MOT.

    !
Just renewed mine fully comp with Hastings at £349 (Mercedes B)

First M O T is due on 3rd anniversary from new, and annually there after

You can choose your insurance Fully Comprehensive, covers damage to your own car, Third Party does not cover damage to your own car, used to be a third Fire and Theft only but don't know if that's still around, as only ever go Fully Comp. Of course there is the fourth category Illegal immigrant insurance, where-in you don't need a licence, don't need insurance, don't need Road Fund Licence, and don't need an M O T, very useful if you get caught, because you get 9 points on a licence that doesn't exist, you get banned from driving for two years, which has no affect and your car gets crushed but you can go out and steal another one.

New cars can be cheaper than used, but depends what car you want, I think in old age you have to consider Kia and Hyundai with their 7 year and 5 year unlimited warranties and comprehensive Service packages and low insurance catergories

    Hi Ivan,
I am still with HASTINGS until 21 June,
New price £650, l;ast year £550 for an 11 years old KIA Carens, I bought it new, 36,000miles after 11 years, never ever let me down, drives like new.
Never been involved in an accident for over 40 years.
I just think it is the Post Code.

The Rumanian immigrants across the road have Six Cars, we have got rid of two so far, reporting them to DVLA, for no tax or insurance, then they get some more. 18 people in a house with two and a half bedrooms.
I think I may rent one of their cars , be cheaper.
    Cheers
    Brian

try phoning your insurer and say you can do better elsewhere.I do this every year with linear direct(direct line) and always get a reduction.I think they expect that a certain amount of people wil chip them and it,s built into the costs.
try a good broker he could have a specialist firm for this problem. You might want to let slip that your on this website of old geezers with the same problem and there could be a few referals for him.

Probably is the postcode Brian and of course we are sparsley populated down here, but it is getting darker! No good changing to Fleetwood as all your details are in the system as Bolton, and your insurance would be invalidated in case of an accident/incident, doubt you would save much anyway. Assume as you are away a lot you've reduced your annual mileage to 6000 and increased your own liability to £250 then this could reduce your premium quite substantially, and being the age we are doesn't help even though we are less accident prone than the young.

Boltonistan has had a BIG Problem with the immi grants causing accidents as a big scam. They overtake
drive in front then slam on the brakes and the car behind hits them,
They then claim there were six family members in the car and all got whiplash..... [that is what they are short of, the lash]
They all then get £3000 each as compo, even tho` there was only one person in the car.
So I always carry two cameras to prove it if it happens to me.
One Insurance company told me that there too many "accidents " where I live.

Way back in 1956 I was in the alehouse and a man shouted "Who wants to buy a car" I could not drive in those days, Me being bevied shouted "Me , How much" he says `Ten Quid`. I said `I only have Seven` he says , `That will do` he gave me the log book, key and said its a Morris 14, 1937 , outside, its yours`
At closing time I went out climbed in and drove it all the way home from town in bottom gear, didn't kno how to drive, but I got there.
I went to Insure it the next day and the Insurance man said, "That will be £5 for the year," "How Much?" . my mates only pay £2 a year,"
He said . "You are a Seaman and Seamen are always Drunk so that is why we charge you more. ".
I drove it around for a while, no licence at all, then I had a big night on the ale as next morning I was sailing on the Adelaide Star to OZ,
I awoke next morning , hangover . `Wheres me car`? Dad said `you came home in a taxi last night in a terrible state.,`
I didn't have time to look for it as I had to get to Liverpool to join the ship. So I never saw the car again.
Be worth a few thousand now.

    How Times have changed.
    Cheers
    Brian

I paid £204 last year for my 15 year old Subaru Outback 3 litre car, so the car is not worth a lot of money, that must have a bearing on the cost of insurance. This is for fully comp, roadside assistance, protected bonus etc, and is with Marks and Spencer ins.The £204 was cheaper by £21 than the quote they gave by letter, and was after phoning, they told me the discount was for being a loyal customer !!!, yea Bol..... , if I had been mug enough to have written a cheque for the first quote they would have taken it. However, it is due for renewal shortly, and I have just turned 75 , so we will see if they load me by age this year, I will post when I know, kt

Thanks Marian but........,in the context of John's post he mentions, insurance, and MOT but then mentions "rego "with discount for seniors etc.
In the UK we don't pay registration, only if your car's brand new and you pay for first registration.
Perhaps he means Road Tax,and rego is the Oz slang word for that?
They're all tucked up in bed down there now ,so perhaps we'll know later on tonight!
