Gulliver, it is obvious we will have to educate you in 'Ozspeak'. Rego is registration, what I think you call car tax and you get a little round disk to put on the windscreen. We no longer have those discs but still have to pay. But all vehicles pay the same rate no matter engine size or emission levels.
It is part of the Australian culture to cut names short. Tinnie for example is a 350ml can of beer, stubbie is same size but a bottle. Long neck is a bottle of 750 ml of amber fluid.
WE do have pints in some hotels, name for our pubs, but also schooners, pots, middies and ponies. All depends on what part of the country you are in.

If you're still trying for car insurance Brian I was on the Age UK site this morning(not that I'm old,you understand,-who am I kidding!),and they recommend their own insurers- LINK.

Re: CAR iNSURANCE,
Hi Davey, thanks for that
But I have finally got my insurance. after several days of trying with countless sites and Insurance companies because my Ins. Company, Hastings, increased their price by £60 to £640, I phoned them this afternoon and after talking to a nice young lady I got it down to £570, with lots of extras. Cheaper than last years.
Prices have ranged from £ 600 to an unbelievable £11,000.
It depends on your Post Code, if there is crime in your area you PAY,
I you are single you Pay,
If you are co-habiting you PAY
If you are Married it comes cheaper.
I told them that if you have a wife who is Nagging down your ear while you are driving surely that is more dangerous than being single. But NO.
JUST CANT WIN.
cheers
Brian

I am indeed pleased to hear that Guilliver, but of course there are many more which may be peculiar to Oz as is the case with most countries.
Now what are White Maggots?
What is a Grey Ghost?
Who would you call Bluey?
What is Sarvo?
Answers will be supplied should you wish!
