#50, 'You're forgiven' Mmm, me no think so! However if you wish to force feed yourself lamb, beef, oats, onions and spices, which is a source of iron, fibre and carbohydrate with no ARTIFICIAL COLOURS, FLAVOURINGS or PRESERVATIVES known as haggis, then that of course is your prerogative John, obviously a dilemma you have wrestled with and overcome. Reading all the posts on this thread, there were many wonderful restaurants visited in my time at sea.
The one place that I always remember was the café at the junction of "A" and "B" berth Cape Town. It sold the best steak sarnies that you could ever taste.
On the Clan Ranald we had a Zulu crew, who were wonderful when sober (just like us all), on the Cape their standards fell due to womanising and booze.
So it was over to the café for sustenance.
    CAn still taste them now.
    regards
    Vic

Soup you never ate (or drank).Durban on the Bluff going for a drink on a SUNDAY,four of you sit down four plates of coloured water put in front of you,you don't touch it four beers put in front of you and the soup taken away and placed on a sideboard.Next customers come in and same soup placed in front of them then taken away and so it went on.Imagine what would've happened if four guys came in and ate the soup.
    Regards.

Revived memories . Of "Days that used to be."

Awoke today with the News of China's (alliance ) with the South African Govt.
They. China have delivered the Coup de grace. For sure.

We can now live with our memories .of another Era.
The enormous amount of territory they now have access too ,is frightening.

Turn -over Rhodes ,Stanley ,Livingstone ,Frank Harris,( Author, among many other achievements)Who More than hundred years ago vividly describes the the Assets ,of Africa , between the Cape and Cairo.
And advocated that Great Britain ,develop the lush, interior of the Continent.

Here on Oz, The Property Market , same story. The Mighty Yen.; Strategic infrastructure ,Such as Waterways, and Dams. Same story.
State and Federal Govt.s. Are happily ceding these. Assets of the People, for the short term gain.

Good Luck .though ,to the Native,if at least some economic benefit ,will enhance your present living conditions.

    Hi Jim.
We held a tanker up in Durban, some blokes took us out to a hotel where they did the same thing I think they called it dirty plates only scrapes on them.
After two days the South African police came and beat the living sh%$t out of us which spoiled the occasion somewhat, but the memories are there without the bruises.

    Hi Charlie/Peter
When I was on the NZ coast called into Bluff many many times, used to swap paint with one of the trawlers for a sack of oysters, anytime we were down there it was oysters all round. Over here it costs an arm and a leg for a dozen.

Yes Jim, similar here in Oz in the days of 'six o'clock swill' for after hour drinking. But all the odd dishes around the globe, pickled tripe I tasted once in UK not for me , but raw lambs liver in Cape Town I found very tasty and still have some at times. Full of iron and very good for you.
The only thing IO ever knew about Wigan was the claim that it had the world's shortest pier, is that true?
    Happy daze John in Oz.

A couple of years ago Wigan Council ran a advertisement campaign with the slogan- Modern Wigan Has No Peer.
