Re: Which Scent
On the Empress of England, absolutely freezing working the 12-4 watch. The night baker would bring us a tray of hot rolls straight from the oven, nothing could ever smell or taste better than this.

Re: Which Scent
BEST aroma to me was the soap issued to you on the "Beaveroak , one of C.P. Ships". Not the usual Buttermilk block but "Astral" (can't remember makers name ) a really nice smell.
And no we didn't all go mincing about, just smelt nice for once.
Happy days.

Re: Which Scent
The smell of coffee never fails to remind my of my first trip, and being sea sick.
Not a nice reminder.

Re: Which Scent
For some on tankers must have been in the final stages of loading when looking for a 3 foot 6 inch ullage with the poles and nose over the ullage cap, some used to spend more time than was necessary in such a position and used to stagger off the deck with a blissful look on their faces. Probably where glue sniffing originated. JS

Re: Which Scent
My cabin on the MV Port St John was midships alongside the engine room. I liked it and steady throb of the motor dozing off. Still can smell it if I close my eyes and think about it. 65/66 ago!
