The smell of those Perfumed Seas when sailing around the Spice Islands. loads of memories and of Dedeh Suardi, a lovely Javanese girl who after being with her for six months, I told to write to the Queen to ask if she could come to live with me in Engaland.
to.......... Buckingham Palace , Liverpool, Near Engaland. I always wondered why she never turned up.
I often think I will get a knock on my door and seeing an 80 year old Javanese woman standing there.

That reminds me of our kebun (groundsman), Suardi when we first went to Jakarta in 1976. We were in a house well out of the city on it's own surrounded by natural growth. Margaret was at home and all of a sudden there were sounds of gunfire coming from Suadi's room. No one was going to be letting off firearms on Margaret's turf!!! She arrived at the room to find Suardi standing on his bed rifle in hand and a whopping great snake disappearing down a hole in the floor.

Sometimes a good prod is needed to keep the fires burning.

    Hi Judith.
My Dad made the best Cawl in Gorsienon, I can still smell it, as I did coming home from School on a winters day.
    Marion.
The smell I most remember is the oily water of Cardiff docks as I went down to join my first ship in 49, I think it also helped make me seasick when we were leaving. The nicest smell was the aroma of sandalwood smoke when passing the island's off Indonesia.
    Cheers Des

Marian as I do not have formal medical or psychiatric qualifications I cannot offer an expert opinion to why your husband cannot leave his poker alone , although I do admire his stamina .

The smell of Roast Pork also reminds me of Borneo. when staying with the Dayaks, my mate Ted and I were given Long Pig to eat at a feast they gave for us, it was only when the British Consul later told us that Long Pig was human meat.
I wont have Pork in the house now.
    Cheers
