Re: Just Awful
brian you could pay in more than the normal payments ......my accountant put me on to it it pays more on percentage than a private pension .....my accountant had the largest chest you have ever seen i was transfixed at every meeting.....if she had suggested the south sea bubble i would have gone for it ......at each year end i would take her for lunch .......she had to rest her beauties on the table....it reminded me of the song i only had eyes for them.....and that other song oh happy day when they were born.....lol cappy

#29 Brian you should have paid them in English currency and not argentino pesos. Anyhow any outsiders reading these posts will be coming back to the UK to claim their sovereign rights, so they may have to reduce yours more to pay for. Anyone from the British Treasury office also reading these posts will be putting your tax up already in expectations of such. God help us if the press read will be on front page tomorrow 50, 000 ex emigrants expected to return to UK shores. Stop Press. The illegal ones wont get a look in, that problem will be solved, also the next P.M. Hail the whatever it is called forgotten, certainly not Labour or Tory. Hope the medicine is now working, Rum and Bacardi wasn't it. You drink one and rub the other on your chest. Cheers John S

Re: Just Awful
Looks like Jim is one of Cameron's grey voters as they call them. But will be interested to see if the tory's get another term and start your G.P. Charging everyone £10 for a visit, Among other things how long he can keep hold of the grey area. Taking nothing away from you or any other pensioner Jim, But would like to see the young disabled helped out a little more, Then again there soft targets always been the Tory way and always will be Regards Terry.

Re: Just Awful
Terry you have never been more wide of the mark, how you reached that conclusion I don't know. That is the weekly pension that I receive and I certainly don't thank Cameron or Osbourne for it it is what I worked all my life for and paid into.I have always said pensioners of today are well off and it is all the young people of today who need tobe looked after,as regards young disabled I know about that as well nearer to me than what you would know.
Regards.

Re: Just Awful
For your information, my state pension (social security) is approx. 190. pounds per week. Social security is tax free if you live basically off it. You are allowed to have, say an additional, again approx., 30 pounds a week coming in before you meet the threshold, after that it becomes a graduated scale of taxation depending on your total taxable income. Taxable incomes are private or company pension, interest income and dividends, income from work etc..
My weekly amount—paid monthly—is about the middle of the road. I entered the states at age 22 and retired at 46. other than my first year, I paid maximum yearly contribution, so I am receiving more than an average employee with the same amount of years in.
My wife's social security check is separate.
Hope this is of interest. Cheers, Rodney

Re: Just Awful
Hi Rodney.. just curious, how come you retired at 46 years, here in the UK it's 65 years with talk of it approaching 70 in the future.

Re: Just Awful
#39... Fred, Rodney was having a bad day and just said what the hell, what"s this work thing anyway. Just retired, anyone can do it. Lot out here retired much earlier than 46. To all intents and purposes I retired when was made redundant from the BSF, took an early private pension paying coppers, to help supplement the lousy wages paid on the type of ships I carried working on or could not have survived on the lousy money paid. Things did get better, only by emigrating though. One of the reasons I mentioned to that young lads father was he aware going to sea is not always a bed of roses. My son had it all worked out to retire at 40, circumstances changed with the Insurance companies he had invested in to achieve this, he is just about 50 still working with little chance of retiring at 65. The best of luck to those who can make life fit to suit their own needs, its what one would call good foresight, does require a lot of luck and planning also though. Cheers John S
