In a recent nationwide survey VW failed to reach the top 10 in the reliability stakes. Skoda models came 1st, 2nd and 4th, Jaguar came 3rd, all others in the top ten were Japanese and Korean, in the bottom 10 were Ford and Vauxhall (GM motors for our overseas cousins)

well johni guess we all mellow and i must say .....i have mellowed beyond recognition ....and i must say i find i like it ......peace in oneself at last and nothing more to prove .......ie heard it seen it done it.......but still like to listen to my children and grandchilren who find the world still young .....and i chuckle to myself but never let them know ......its all beem done before......but why spoil there dreams by telling them ....regards cappy

I will not dispute what you post here as the Net has all kinds of things some correct and some not so correct!
Would like to know where that survey was! As said just inquisitive!
On my last look around the VW was voted a very good rating on most all things including reliability!
So were the Skoda ,Audi,Mercedes Benze!

In addition to #26 Car Leasing firms do their own statistics and they publish them showing their experiences, do not have the link. But we all have personal experiences with our cars that do not conform to the statistics, Peugot and Renault come well down their league table but I never had any trouble with the cars I owned of those marques. Most unreliable car I ever owned was a BMW 5 series, waited 16 weeks for special order, in the first 30 days it was off the road 14 days and had to be dragged out of my garage by a tow truck on three separate occasions as the automatic locked it in park, only time the brakes worked properly was when I redelivered it high speed towards their showroom window and I chickened out at the last moment. They wouldn't buy it back but Mercedes bought it from me at nearly what I paid for it, as had a Merc before buying the BMW, they told me I would be back but didn't expect to see me so soon. Their showroom was just round the corner from BMW, so I drove it round there, told them the situation, they took the keys from me, gave me the keys to a new 'C' Class there and then and said we'll sort out the finance later, that's what I call service, still drive a Merc, although have tried other marques inbetween, but keep going back. As long as you get your car serviced at Mercedes (not as expensive as people seem to think) you have world wide recovery as long as you own the car, or for thirty years whichever comes soonest, so no need to bother with RAC/AA/Green Flag etc, applies to new and used cars.

#27 Ivan,I had a BMW TDI as did hubby we had no problems at all apart from me in winter when I lost count of the times I skated along in the ice, got too bad for my nerves.....Had two wee Honda's great & nippy. Again not so good on ice wrapped the first one around a Telegraph Pole taking it into be serviced only write off. 2nd one nuzzled a sheep in the drive, huge dent. Had the first Landrover Discovery [sorry Happy Daze & John Pruden] in Southern Ireland a V8 petrol. Back door handle kept braking real nusiance in and out several times been replaced too flimsy for the weight of the door. After 18 months it also needed a new engine!! They replaced that no problem. A few years later Range Rover re-designed to hatchback opening which was more convenient then had a tail gate that dropped down, great for changing the children's nappies My all time favourite Jaguar
XK8 had to trade in when the grandchildren came along no room for grandma. So now returned to Discovery, 7 seats and still a joy.

Used to have an old Austin A40 back then! Yonks ago! LOL
Good old Motor!
Then went to the Peugeot 203 . Both old ones but stood the test!
Then on to my old trusted VW Beetle 1959 Non Watercooled Rear Engine had it for 267000 Miles!
All go!
