Not only Holden going but Ford and Toyota as well. There is not enough demand for local built cars and the variety of cars from Europe and asia gives the people such choice for about the same price. A Merc here can now be bought for the same price as a Ford.

Vernon, now you have the new car what will you do with the skate board you normaly got around on ? LOL
    Happy daze John in Oz.

As a little aside Nissan in Sunderland have just built the 2,000,000 Quasqui. This has taken 6 years to build them, the Mini took 10 years to reach 2,000,000

    Hi Fred
My reasons for owning a VW are a few things!
Comfort,Reliability,Strongly Built (My one actually comes direct from Germany) ,Fuel Consumption,Speed when needed, Service Costs .
I did when first coming to Australia buy a 1979 VB Commodore 6 Lire with the Blue Motor,it was a good Car and of course those days the Petrol price was not a problem!
It was also a Blue in Colour but as I then worked at the local TAFE in Granville in the Painting Section (Cars) I was able to have my Car repainted in a two tone colour. Blue on top half and a nice Grey at the Bottom, with a Gold Pinstripe separating the two colours ! It looked grand!
later changed to a few different Fords, but then found out it was starting to cost too much to run!
Also of course then we still had the Kids to carry!
Now that we are alone ,well for quite some time now,the VW is perfectly suited!
    Cheers

I think one of the best is the Volvo,
My last one a VolVo 575 ESTATE, automatic, had for 14 and a half years, did 265,000 miles in it, extremely comfortable, like sitting in a big arm chair.
I bursted the Radiator and the oil and water got mixed up inside the engine, so it would have cost too much at that age to repair.
I bought a KIA Carens ten years ago, No probs at all, but only done 30,000 in all that time.
    Cheers

Yes I agree that Volvo is also a very good Car,a wee bit expensive here though!
That brings back memories of when I was on the Gold Mines in Glen harmony,i had a Hudson Hornet, and my mate had a Volvo Sports ,gees that was something!
That was the ones with the short Nose and round body to the back.

No wonder you only have 30,000 on the Clock with your KIA Capt you spend all your time at Sea mate! LOL!
Try taking it to Europe next time and put some serious Millage on her! hahah!
