Friday the 13th
HI All.
We all know about the superstition of sailing on Friday the 13th. Well I was glad I didn't have to sail last Friday 13th.
I got up in the morning to find that the hot water tank was cold. [overnight storage hadn't switched on] Went to the phone to find out that the phone wasn't working so couldn't call an electrician.
As the wife's step mother had been put in a nursing home in NZ; went up to the flower shop to send her some flowers only to find out that not only was all the eftpos in the town of Cooma were down, but the internet as well.
Went down to the daughters place to use her phone only to find out that ALL the phones in the town were down. That same night there had been a full moon.
late that night everything came back to normal. I rang an electrician who came around early the next day but I had to tell him that the hot water came on that night.
Talk about weird, but no one we met said anything, I wonder if it was an hallucination. And John I only have one middy a week.
Cheers Des

Re: Friday the 13th
Me too Des, Went in to check my website on Friday that I run for the QI/QBE retirees to find the web hosting service I've used for many years had gone somewhere over the horizon and the domain name had gone. The whole thing has crashed but fortunately Yahoo were offering a good deal for sixty bucks a year and as I have backed up the site (Whew!!!) all I need to do is work out how to navigate the new hosting service. I'm still going around in circles!!

Re: Friday the 13th
I am sailing on Friday 13th February next. on the Statendam, the same ship I was taken off in Honolulu for a life saving operation last February 2013.
I wrote to Holland America and told them ships do not sail on Friday 13. They gave me a credit note for the ship.
So what I do is, the ship sails from San Diego at 5 pm Friday 13, BUT that is 1am on Saturday 14 in Bolton, so if I do not alter my watch to local time then I have beaten the Jinx.
.
There was a Liverpool shipping Company who got fed up of ships being held up over the weekends because Sailors would not sail on Fridays, To bring an end to the superstition they Designed a ship on a Friday, started to build it on a Friday, it was launched on a Friday, and named SS Friday, and completed trials on a Friday, A Captain, named Friday was found and the ship sailed for New York on a Friday .
.
Captain Friday and the ship SS Friday was never seen again.
Cheers
Brian.

Re: Friday the 13th
when i was at sea it was thought that a ship did not sail from it`s "home port" on friday the 13th. if you were forgien then it was OK to sail on that dy.
