Re: Climate change?????
Hi Guys,
If you check out the National Snow & Ice Data Centre, (A US Government website nsidc.org), you will see in their September 2013 news that the Antarctic Sea Ice is at a record high, more of it than there has ever been, ever since they started to send up satellites to watch it. There is an average of 12 miles extra sea ice all the way around Antarctica. Now that is an awful lot of extra ice in a world that is supposed to be getting warmer?
Dave
.
. Hi Dave,
That is exactly what the men of the British Antarctic Survey Team told me when I was in the Antarctic in 2009.
Cheers
Brian.

Re: Climate change?????
The Berstereds will just throw my pound notes at the sun and all will be well. Or stuff the tops of volcanoes with pound notes that will stop eruptions,
No more Typhoons, No more hurricanes or cyclones, No more winter storms , no more heat waves in summer, No more snow in winter, No more droughts in the desert, no more rain in the rain forests, no more earthquakes,
no more Fogs, no more cloudy days,
.
What a wonderful world we are going to have when the Greens have finally bancrupted me with their Taxes.
I`ll go along with that.
Brian.

Re: Climate change?????
John A, p8 apropos farm waste, this is already being done successfully in Germany, Austria along with some other European countries.
Brian Those holes are still there just far larger.
Climate change is a fact no matter what the nay sayers say it is undeniable. Sticking our heads up our collective backsides over it is part of progress but it will be regretted. Yes sadly much of the initiatives by authorities are sadly inane, & of course wind farms etc are not commercially viable + being an eye sore as we all agree, with much waste of money being incurred. This was also said not too long ago about converting salt water to fresh in countries where water is short. Now it is widely done commercially viably & countries are now slowly getting water where there was little, or they suffered from droughts. This will become the case with energy in time.
To see what is occurring in mainland China with very serious waste like mercury & other industrials just dumped & eventually fouling the water table. The industrial revolution s...t being pumped into the atmosphere there is mind boggling which even their government is now admitting-recognising & paying some form of environmental lip service to due to the shocking illness being caused to the population through pollution.
To see the garbage in the Pacific from ships, land etc is amazing. We have sailed through it on our yacht twice back in the 90's. A shock as it just sits there going round & round for ever. Must be so also in other parts of the oceanic world it is not deniable mostly plastics polystyrene etc. We deny the future problems with the oceans where we have for a 100 years or more dumped carcinogens, industrial-military items, bombs & worst nuclear waste, planes you name it. The USSR with its rotting nuclear fleets causing now already demonstrable difficulties in those sea regions & their inhabitants. This is fact not fiction or mad men's ravings.
I am not a raving greeny, yes I do have a degree in environmental engineering which I took as I was appalled at the environmental carnage my industry was causing-creating for eons, more so back in the 70-80-90's. Look at Solomon's, PNG, Indonesia, Irian Jaya China Mongolia all places I have worked on projects & seen the damage caused to forests, rivers, land, peoples habitats with the environmental consequences being clear to all! Think Ok Tedi & the river systems polluted for a 100 years! The first time our industry started as a whole to be responsible was the Gt Alaska oil & gas pipe line project where I worked in a senior position utilising those skills something that is a real example of environmentally responsible man made work. There are many more now I saw as I was in the twilight of that career occurring in Mongolia for instance ( to most people considered a 3rd world country but it is not) due to forward thinking locals demanding it & the Chinese eventually with much prodding from the Mongolians conceded in the coal mining area, even if the coal is 'dirty' coal for their power stations.
End of rave.

Re: Climate change?????
Thanks and agree. As said don't think anyone disputes climate change, except the misinterpretation of so called political statements taken out of context by the press and media to make so called news which is often incorrect. The discussion was how to combat pollution both gases and physical objects if you like. The physical objects were supposedly handled by making it illegal to discard anything into the ocean which was not chemically available to be broken down. As regards greenhouse gases on the so called method of taxing everyone is the argument which to me is not the answer and will accomplish nothing. Don't need a scientific degree to see the uselessness of this approach by the past government of Australia which was the Greens idea in the first place and which the resident government of the day went along with to stay in power. Re: Climate change?????
We are all aware of the problem, but as yet i have not heard from anyone what the answer is!!!, of course we have lots of meetings with world leaders on carbon emissions etc etc, these meetings only ever achieve more hot air produced. You could sit two of these so called leaders down in a room, and they would not agree . When countries like China, and us in the past have caused heavy pollution, its usually all about the God of money! So they continue to raise more taxes, and continue to book in to first class hotels, having got there on first class flights, to talk more sh**. Just my opinion, but certainly not in denial of the problem Regards KT
