Re: The Health and Safety can be alittle strange at times
I once handed over a ship that was heaving with bed bugs. The Port Health overheard me and after a look round ordered a full survey at some cost and delay,
Johnny the Greek went off his head & sacked me !

Re: The Health and Safety can be alittle strange at times
Graham had one of the seismic crew joining a ship out here covered in sores, sent him ashore in the Chase boat to see a doctor. The Chase boat skipper was doing his nut when he came back saying I should have told him that the person had scabies, I didn't know that was the reason for sending him ashore. He had apparently lain down on the skippers bed, and had to burn the mattress, the same as we had to do on the ship I was on. This bloke had been working in W. Africa went back to UK for a couple of days before being flown out here to Oz. Must have had a bad time explaining to his wife when he got home. Cheers John Sabourn

Elf and safety regulations are rorted everywhere you go. Had a go at the local supermarket manager about end of ailse displays. Built in such a manner it is hard to get a trolley into the ailse. He then told me they had been built by a supplier and nothing to do with him. I told him if he continued to allow brain dead reps to do this he would be in deep **** as he has a duty of care to his staff and customers.
Next day they were all gone and for the last four weeks no more have appeared.

Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

Re: The Health and Safety can be alittle strange at times
Ref to 74 and the skipper with no mattress... Don't know how long he had to go sleeping on bare boards. Working off NW Australia, couldn't go to the corner shop and buy one, and he only went into port for Stores and fuel for us, so imagine would at least be a couple of weeks. Didn't ever like asking him in case he thought I was pulling his pisser. No sense of humour some of these Australians. John Sabourn

They are Whimps, They are wearing Gloves,
When I was steel erecting we never ever wore gloves and I never wore them on deck. More difficult to climb steel with gloves on.

If youd just had a 50 dollar manicure wouldn't you keep your gloves on. JS
