Cold Calling.
Just recently I have been plagued by either Asian or Chinese people requesting our Gas, Electric details. I presume that a number of you have the same problem. I personally think its rude just to hang up the phone, so i tried the following just a few moments ago.
Asian voice (you imagine the accent) Hello sir I am speaking to you about your gas bill.
Me. Sorry I do not have gas at my home.
Asian voice. Then about you electricity bill, is your supplier British Gas, Eon or other supplier.
Me. I dont have a supplier I have a Windmill.
Asian voice. Sir could you spell that for me please.
Me. Yes certainly its W.I.N.D.M.I.L.L.
Asian voice. Sir how do you pay cash, cheques,Direct Debit.
Me. I dont pay its free.
Asian voice. I dont understand sir you must pay for your electricity.
Me. I dont pay I have a windmill.
Asian voice. I dont understand sir what is a windmill.
Me. Its a pole in my garden thats 30 feet tall with sails that go round and round and it runs a belt that goes to a motor that makes electricity for me for free.
He hung up.
I dont think he saw the funny side if it.
John Albert Evans.
PS. I dont have a Windmill

How to stop cold calling
There is a free swevice operated by BT in the U.K. that you can subscribe to that stops the vast majority of these cold calls. The details of how to activate it should be in the info section at the front of your phonebook or online.
It takes some time for it to actually activate but does work. I have it and it works, even though BT are not my billing company for calls. We also did it for my departed mother in law as she was 90yrs old and suffering terrible amount of cold calls which was distressing her badly.
Before we got the cold calling stopped she used to blow a pea whistle down the line to them!!!!
I believe the service may go under the term Nuisance Calls, anyway check it out.

My youngest son was in real estate a few years back, part of his duties were making cold calls regarding refinancing one's mortgage. He hated it. One evening he too made a call and a pleasantly voice elderly man asked him to hold his thought for a few seconds...my son did...and the pleasantly voiced eldery man said "Are still there ?" my son affirmed, and the nice man blasted down the phone with a compressed air fog horn...My son had to go to a medical clinic for treatment...he quit his job.

Doors and Walls:
Had one call, the chap asked how many windows I had at the front of the house, replied 5.
and at the back, replied 6.
Then he asked if I had any doors ?
Enough was enough and replied with of course I do, how in this world do you think I get in and out of the gaff ?
Gone !
Moments later, had the supervisor on the phone moaning his chap was both in tears and upset !
GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY:
Learned much as a kid, when we had telephone directories, guess it was wrong, but we did it: We would phone a number Ad Hoc and ask for Mr. Wall, sorry no Mr. Wall here. Mr's Wall ? No sorry.
Any walls ? No.
How do you keep your bleeding roof on ?
Mr. Bates was a good one ! Mrs Bates ?
All negative: Do you know the son Master B ...... ?
My younger brother had an interview years ago with a Double Glazing Company, met him afterwards at my Aunts. He informed her she would be getting a call soon as they were going through the H's when he was there. Moments later the phone rang:
Think cold calling is bad as nippers we would phone the local vicars after school and tell him / them to get off the line quick, as the train was coming.
Those were the days an we done it before companies.
Any one remember the old press button A and B in boxes ?
K.

Me, Mr, Aspinall speaks to no one without the password.
Them , they hang up.

One said `Is he a very important person?` I said `yes , and he has Security, You cannot speak to him unless you have been cleared by Security.`

I think most know that the Google ads are specific to a thread - the two showing for me at the moment are 'Cold Calling Scripts' 'Compare Gas and Electricity'
