    Default The calling

    THE CALLING.

I still hear the call of those years gone past,
of adventure which beckoned the bold.
I still feel the pull of great oceans vast,
how I long for that challenge of old.

Oh for touch of sea breeze caressing the cheek,
for the taste of salt spray on the lips.
How I long for the challenge which all sailors seek,
and the freedom of seas and of ships.

Oh to roll again upon a lazy swell,
`neath a sky of blue and a warming sun.
Oh to listen to sailors with tales to tell,
of adventures past and voyages done.

Give me a deck which will heave `neath my feet,
a ship which is built proud and strong.
A ship for the purpose of great seas to meet,
for `tis there that I`m sure I belong.

Oh to feel crash of sea `neath plunging bow,
to hear thunder of seas coming o`er.
I knew these things once and they`re calling me now,
how I long for those days gone before.

Oh to know again that awesome might,
    and shrieking tumult all around.
`Midst storm driven seas in blackness of night,
    Mind battered with thunderous sound.

Oh to answer once more that call from afar,
to take ship and go off to a sea.
To stand at a wheel or to look to a star,
Where else would a sailorman be ?

This call is forever, always to be
known both in the heart and the mind.
`Tis a call of the ages from vastness of sea,
which beckons to men of a kind.

That is very true. I'm sure we all understand that feeling. Unfortunately,if we were still young enough,we'd have to find a foreign ship to take us.Ships flying the Red Ensign don't want us anymore.
