Re: Climate Change
Rodders, thanks for that and hope all is as well as can be health wise for you and your wife. I had an Angiogram yesterday which told me all is well, no blockages.
There is nothing wrong in any attempt tp improve the environment, be it by reducing emissions, cleaning up the general mess, or by using alternative methods of power production.
But sadly the Left has got hold of it and are using it as a weapon to drag the young into this fight.
There is more about a Socialistic society globally than any effort to stop mining or any other thing.
The push for a social society, not just here in Oz but in many other countries, is gaining momentum.
They will stop at nothing to achieve their aims and will use any form of propaganda to get there.
In my opinion this is a far greater danger to the world than any form of global warming or so called climate change.
Here in Oz we have not only the left at it but the 'Greens' are not far behind.
To some extent they are worse than the left, to them it is their way or the highway.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Climate Change
Well aware that this thread has been done to death but a couple of bits at the weekend I thought may be of interest.
NASA has announced that Antarctic melting is being caused by undersea Volcanic activity, nothing to do with Global Warming.
Three of Australia's top scientists, P. Rudd, I. Plimer and Nir Shaviv have issued a statement to the fact that whilst there is evidence of vastly changing weather patterns tye see no evidence of any man made issues effecting this. They consider it to be part of a natural cycle.
A wind farm one of many, was planned for a place in country NSW, so much anti by locals concerned about the visual effect it has been dumped.
A local farmer who gains rental from some on his property said the noise from them is not good for his or his families health but the rent does suppliment their income.
A recent report into them has noted the height and size, but also that currently they only supply about 1.2% of total global power needs.
They have been classified by one of our institutes here as the most inefficient form of power generation.
The cost to build, set in place, rent to land owners and the fact that they can only be used with certain wind speeds makes them very inefficient.
Today news from USA regarding Tesla electric cars.
A number have had fires in the batteries destroying the vehicles.
Tesla has been forced to write new software for their vehicles which means the batteries can only be charged to a maximum of 80%.
This will reduce the total mileage on a full charge by some 15%.

Re: Climate Change
I think you will find minor earth tremors going on all the time even without hacking shale gas . jp

A poor guy died recently in Florida because he could not get out when his Tesla car caught fire after a crash. There have been issues with aircraft batteries of the same type catching fire.

[B]NASA has announced that Antarctic melting is being caused by undersea Volcanic activity, nothing to do with Global Warming. HD JOHN # 269[/B
i have said this before that when I was in the Antarctic in 2009 we sailed through the caldera of a Volcano and the sea was very warm and we all went swimming in the sea surrounded by ice.
NASA is a little late finding that info.
As said before , go and see for yourself and not believe what "-ologies" say.

Yes Des, great news.
We saw them attempting to swim in the mud, those poor bloody framers, just hope they get enough to end this drought.
Best bit of news for some time, but goes to show that most of what is occurring is cyclical.
Rodders, on the matter of wind turbines, a cost of some $10 million for each one put up here in Oz.
That includes all cables, rent on land it stands on, setting in place etc.

You better believe it Victoria, so many walk off the land and that will leave us all in strife if that continues.
Sad thing is a lot could be done to improve their life.
Despite what we are told we are not the driest place, we get plenty of rain fall but do little to harvest it.
Politics prevents that from happening, lack of political will I fear.
