I think as well as that there was a shortage of ships when I was there, when I came home I had to wait over six weeks before I got my first ship.
I didnt mind doing 12 weeks , I had a lovely girl friend there so I was courting every night and continued for a couple of years after, when on leave. She even phoned me at my Hotel at one of the Vindicatrix Reunions Half a Century later. I do have this effect on ladies, they never forget me.
Cheers
Brian.
ps, and it wasnt just for the maintenance.
