Had oxtail many times at sea, but doubt the Chief Stewards I sailed with would serve it at todays prices. Used to be a very cheap dish but only for silvertails today. Same with ox tongue. Thought I would buy a tongue the other day but was over $20 each, so bought fillet steak instead.
I bought a pack of two ox tongues last week, £5, froze one cooked the other, lovely!

I used to enjoy brawn or head cheese as it is known in US. Sliced on a sandwich or fried as a fritter. Her indoors,(still) thinks it's disgusting. Can't seem to get it now round here. Oh well, back to the tripe and cow heel fricasee.

Brawn, potted meat, sweetbreads very nice, pigs cheek ok but cows heel and tripe doesn't suit me, my granny used to boil sheeps' heads, I could smell them down the street so would give her house a miss when she was cooking them

As you mention pigs cheek, still love the cut called Bath Chap is a particular cut of pork chop made in Wiltshire and Somerset in southern England. It is a 14 to 21 oz (400 to 600g) piece of pork, whose shape is somewhat like a cone cut in half through the top. It is cut from the lower portion of a cheek of a pig. You can buy them raw at some butchers, but they are usually sold prepared and cooked.

I used to prefer meat well done. A new Zulu cook arrived on the Clan Ranald, his roast beef was cooked on the outside, rare in the middle, delicious, he changed my taste forever.
He also introduced us to Nazi Goring (spelling), another delicious fare Eastern meal.
As an aside Nazi and Bami Goring are available in Lidl.

Sounds like the "The Blue Max" version: Nazi Goering.
While nasi goreng is available in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, the Indonesian version is my favorite.

When in Albany WA, Chinese Chief Steward found he could buy sheeps heads from local abattoir for 5/-, ( in the days before dollars). Bought 4 and brought back on board. On checking found they were complete with eyes, tongues and brains. Told captain who gave him 20 quid to get some more. The Cook on that ship made really good sheeps head brawn, so quite few meals for saloon.

I honestly suspect it’s just an old wives tale without true merit, but where I'm from,
