On POPPY DAY

On Poppy day I march again,
In wind or shine, sometimes rain,
For those who went and fought in wars,
Then gave their lives for some just cause.

Perhaps they fell in foreign lands,
Or lost at sea with all hands,
Each one answered freedom’s call,
Remember them - God bless `em all.

In silence then I blink my tears,
Side by side with medalled peers,
A surge of tribute uppermost,
At the sounding of `Last Post`.

On Poppy day we march again,
Stepping out to band’s refrain,
Veteran`s bearing justly proud,
Passing by the loyal crowd.

A SAILOR'S LAMENT

Gulls have pecked my eyes out, fish have cleaned my bones-
A man's recycled this way, in the locker of D.Jones;
Me and many shipmates,all were heaven sent,
To cross the bar in silence-in liquid monument;
Finished with our human form and all the earthly strife,
Now biding midst the briny in our salty afterlife.
Whether you just paddle, or sail across the sea,
Please treat the water kindly-for it could be partly me!

At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 2011 - 11-11-11-11 - we will be remembering those who were willing to lay down their lives for their country.

Although what is most important is that you both wear a poppy with pride and remember. How many adorn it varies: I just ask that those that know more show more thought. It is easy sometimes to just ad ad-hoc, I tend to look at poppy's and if the petal is at eleven of the clock, feel wrongly or rightly that the wearer has shown more thought ?

Many in the news and broadcasts are pinned on by PA's, would be appreciated on 11/ 11 if we coud observe the same:

To WEAR A POPPY

When we buy a poppy, approaching Remembrance Day
There’s a method we should sport it - in a special way
Don’t show it off too early - as politicians do
Or have it on your right side - that is quite wrong too

Place it on your left side so others will not mock
Make sure the leaf that’s with it - is eleven of the clock
I reckon it’s noteworthy to pin it on correct.
When donning this fine emblem, expressing your respect.

Of course it’s not compulsory but that`s the way I see
One reason why you`re wearing it - is because we`re free!

As said, please just wear your poppy with pride, if by chance you are in the public eye, once your PA has pinned it on, adjust it yourself to eleven. No one else may notice the difference, but I will.

today i attended the service in the DUNEDIN Cenotoph it was very well attended all the major big wigs was in attendance it was a lovely service and i had the honour off laying the wreath on behalf of the merchant navy but unfortunatlywas was not able to attend the after functions as i am not feeling the best just now but i will be going to the church service next sunday regards to you all
