Re: Riots in the UK
Sometimes you do not have a choice.
But all but two of your pries when converted to Oz dollar are a bit more expensive.
Could be brought about by grain supply.
How much do UK produce and how much do they have to import?

We export a lot of grain John, its high quality is ideal for cakes/patisserie etc. You learn a lot about different types of grains when a deck officer/Master over and above its stowage factor and with transporting from one side of the world to the other and vice versa.

There has been a 3% wage drop , inflation goes up, then there is a 3% wage rise the inflation goes up. no mention of the stock market.

Des, it may be long term strategy, take alook around your neck of the woods, China threatening Taiwan today, tomorrow? who would be next?
5% of your population are ethnic Chinese = 1.2 million; how many sleepers among that number?

Re: Riots in the UK
Demonstrations and protests are always infiltrated by 'rent- a- mob' who do their damndest to make the peaceful protestors look bad. They are the ones doing the looting, burning and violence.

Mentioned this earlier, Bibby Stockholm was again mentioned in the news today. Running out of jail spaces , use the Bibby Stokholm as a jail.
Could be used for prisoners who are doing the last stretch of their sentence prior to being released as long as their crime had not been of a sexual or violent nature!!! think the term White Collar crime.
Bang the rioters up with no promise of early release.

Re: Riots in the UK
I can only agree, whilst watching thins nonsense spiral out of control before our very eyes.
Here we are, 22nd August.... and no-one has made any declaration that might stabilise the situation whatsoever ...all are merely covering their own backsides: All of them.... FAKE POLITICIANS. Cowards.
Not one of them has come out and made any statement as to why the riots unfolded....... (There will always be looters under such circumstances....Opportunistic thieves...low lifes...call them what you will.)
What the MSM is not doing is a public service... They are Kow-towing to the Government of the day.... to avoid civil unrest.... (a tactic used when a country is at war) What is more worrying is the fact that MSM is NOT reporting on peaceful protests.
Up and down the land of the UK there were peaceful "protests" attended by the reasonable, middle class, (I hate using "class" analogies) Hundreds oi people milling about city centre squares.... few police in attendance.... totally redundant...yet.... WHERE WAS THE MEDIA?
Where were the local Politicians? Where was the BBC to report "Impartially" of all these many , quiet, decent tranquil protests... against the very thing the more extreme protesters were causing mayhem elsewhere against......? Mmm?
And I for one, take offence at Starmer for labeling me a "Right Wing Thug" & a "Racist"... because that is exactly what he did..... Moreover, I hold him directly responsible for inciting the violence that followed his comments. Shades of Berlin, 1930's
I think we can agree the last Tory Government were rubbish....
But if they had even attempted to fix the problems left by the previous Socialist Government...like the ever pressing overpopulation in decaying prisons across the UK...They would have been crucified. Slammed as "Fascists!" for trying to fix a problem.
Now....22nd August. 2024...look what has happened: Criminals released early to make space for Granddads and Grandmas who dared to make a protest.....or saying 'nasty things' on social media even..... all at the insistence of Starmer.
And....let us not forget this key fact: Starmer Insisted that NO Bail was to be issued to "rioters".... They must be jailed at the Magistrates Court.... How many breaches of Human Rights does that entail?
Prime Minister? Pathetic excuse for one. The worst ever in my opinion. 5 minutes in....the guy has bottled it.

Re: Riots in the UK
Hi James...with all due respect...The Bibby Stockholm is a Band-Aid. a mummy's plaster for a scratch. It was NEVER going to provide any sort of solution.
Yeah...I get your point regarding "white collar" crime...but hey!.... All those in Westminster? all those corrupt councilors in local Government....you'd need a thousand Bibby Stockholm's!
And...it gets worse... What about the "Stockholm Syndrome"? Where would it end?
Take care.

Re: Riots in the UK
You are missing a very serious point..... There is NOWHERE to put any miscreants today in the UK....The Jails have been filled to capacity since 2000..... They are at boiling point. (Ask yourself: Who are they....?)(Mostly illegal immigrants.)
But what does the Government of Starmer do? They order the early release of criminals to make space for for "Protesters" of the people who protested against Illegal Immigration..... How can you be illegal for protesting against illegality?
Anyone out there?
(Edit: I spelt Starmers name wrongly. Still have if truth be known.)

Re: Riots in the UK
Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted comes to mind.
The problem is not current, it began many decades past, 'If they are black send them back' comes to mind.
The number first allowed in after WW2 was fine, but it continued to grow and then came along the illegals, the source of current unrest.
No matter what band aids the current gov puts on the situation it will not reverse what has gone before.
The people have a right to be angry, their country is being taken from them.
So where are the illegals hiding, many I would suggest with countrymen well established in UK.
The problem will continue until some permanent solution to illegals is arrived at.
From what we saw when in London recently there is none on the horizon.
The current PM I fear does not have the balls to do anything.
But lock some up, no matter who they are, and some will see that as Gov doing something.
