#265 maybe an Australian doctor , what difference does that make ? What origins does he come from ? To say Australian you are already discriminating by race according to the Woke Brigade and to some of our own would be politicians. I would like to see the old days return where local politicians it was an unpaid honour to represent their fellow constituents. It only took a couple of hours a week , now they get paid for making a mess of the world and try and tell you what a good job they are doing. This applies to all parties. This will probably be expunged which will be another big mistake as handing the reins to the same indivduals. JS…..

Re: Death of Innocence.
The situation now as I see it, a peace deal has been made, both sides and USA say they will abide by it and all hostages from both sides will be freed.
But if Israel generals have the final word then once that is done they will continue with the war.
One poli here, from Tassie so allowances must be made, said yesterday NO politician should get a reward such as two ex State Premiers did in the birthday awards.
Thye are she said, paid by the people to do a job, not win awards.
How bloody rue is that!!

Re: Death of Innocence.
I know a bit about the Awards system John. The awards are politically given and that’s where they originate and not the king or Queen. 10 Downing Street is where they are born.
When T.B. Was in the chair he was accused of selling them to foreign dignitaries his reply was it was money for his party funds. Those who have received particularly the one from your state cannot say it was unexpected as they are asked in confidence a month before hand if it is acceptable and if they have any conscience about their own performance could say No and no one is any the wiser. Apparently quite a few have grabbed with both hands . You will never know those who turned them down unless they reveal it themselves. The only gongs that do not come through the government are the likes of what you see the Royals wearing themselves which are hereditary. Notice William and Dirty Harry appear to be wearing more than what they used to . Must think it makes them look more colourful ? JS

#273, Still no mention of those from the Merchant Navy and D Day? The whole thing would have fallen on it's ar-se if it had not been for the involvement of the Merchant Navy.
Those lads did not get a chest full on medals and yet 80 years on even our own fail to register their sacrifice.
The only guys worthy of their medals were the several thousand men who stormed the Beaches on D-Day.
Tut tut Doug , perhaps like some one else you may have left early as well.

Re: Death of Innocence.
John.
Many politicians in Aus get more than medals, I once had to work with the Deputy leader of a party in NSW and he told me that when they took office after the election his leader too over the Brown bag deliveries. As an ex bricklayer my mate said was more than satisfied with his salary'

Re: Death of Innocence.
#275. Des bricklayers over east when the last Olympic Games were held in Sydney , brickies were getting a dollar a brick laid. I know this as was building my last house and brickies over here were like hens teeth they all disappeared to Sydney , laying 800 a day is about average for a good brickie. A bloke called Ambrose used to be the title holder and was well in excess of 800. However my old man could be very fast also if he wanted , he reckoned Ambrose only got the record as he took a break every hour for 15 minutes which was not counted in the overall time. Whoever holds the title today wouldn’t know , but a good bricklayer can keep 2 hod carriers busy at the same time. During the period in 2000 or thereabouts the going rate in Sydney was a dollar a brick layed .Maybe Churchill if still alive would have a go as he did bricklaying for a hobby. JS

Re: Death of Innocence.
Brick layers here in Victoria have been charging as much as $2 a brick.
It got so bad one company, Simmonds, found some brickies from Indonesia, a group of five, here in Melbourne and pay them $5,000 per house.
They work and do the job, but when you stand back and take good look the deliberate mistakes are there.
The guys who did my brothers house, same gang, told me it take two days per house and they do 3 a week.
