I remember being in the drydock and shipyard in Middlesborough in the 1970s . In the yard with us was one of the Clipper fridge ships. A tip off the police had was that there was going to be an attack on the vessel think it was the Glasgow Clipper but can’t swear to it. However the police had sharpshooters up the cranes and elsewhere , I was mate on the ship I was on and the dog handler spent his day in my cabin and I fell in love with his German Shepard . There was no attack maybe they got cold feet. The police sergeant returned the compliment and gave me a tour of Middlesborough Police station, and we finished up in their bar me as the guest, I think even the dog had a beer. The trouble in the Middle East started well before we were born and will be still there when we’ve all gone to pastures new. Cheers JS….

I am surprised about the apparent number of Hamas supporters on this site. Hamas are a cowardly, murderous organisation that hide behind women and children, when committing their murderous deeds.
Everyone is shouting for the Israel's to stop their actions and threatening them with the international court for alleged war crimes.
There is no mention of the crimes committed by Hamas or any public outcry for them to stand trial.
The Hamas leadership enjoys safety in Qatar, why is there no attempt been made to seize them and put them on trial?
As for one poster to imply that half the UK Government is behind the sale of arms to Israel is a joke and obviously has no knowledge of the machinations of how the granting of licence's for UK arms works.
In a previous post, I stated that the Russians were behind this war, and I still believe that they are. They lent on Iraq to unleash Hamas and cause friction in the middle east, in order to split the west support for Ukraine.

With ref to #102 which is the genuine full post. It was said at the time it was Israeli money that built these clipper ships. They were said to be able to convert them to armed merchant cruisers at short notice , this was on the grape vine at that time. JS

    David,

I am a retired information systems designer, specialising in enterprise software. What came to mind on reading The Guardian article you linked to is a truism of information systems design: Garbage In, Garbage Out (GIGO).

There is a lot of hype around AI. There are all sorts of promises being made by marketing people who don't know what they are talking about. Experts have been warning of the dangers posed by reliance on AI. And I share their concerns.

2 + 2 = 4 is predictable and well understood. This precision and predictability is not possible with AI. These systems are required to chew through massive amounts of disparate data to the extent that their output results are unpredictable to experts and programmers. You cannot read AI programs and predict, for a certain set of inputs what the output will be. It's all a bit fuzzy.

#104,I assume your ref is to my #96. If it is suggest you read it again.
#107 were in my post do I mention HAMAS?
Perhaps, if Israel would stop pushing Palestinians out of their homes and land to buld more and more homes and settlements, attrocities like October 7th would not happen. If you keep abusing people long enough and often enough do not be surprised if they react.
Israel is supposed to have one of the best intelligence gathering agenies in the the world. Do not try and say that Nethanyahu did not have intell on what HAMAS were planning.
My reason for mentioning cabinet members and there connection to a particular religious faith !!!! figure that out for yourself.
For to long now moderate thinking people in the UK have adopted an attitude of keeping their heads burried in the sand.
They stand by and are letting minority groups take over our political instutions for their own ends, be they Conservatives or Labour. The old mantra STAY CALM, one day we will realise and hopefully waken up and take back our way of life.
Not really surprised by your post Douglas, you cannot see what is happening to the UK just watch for a reaction come the next general election, The Reform party are going to take alot of Tory votes.

The pictures on TV of Israelis dragging food off those lorry's waiting to go into Gaza and stamping the boxes into the dust says it all. I don't codon what Hamas did, I still think that Yetinyahoo knew what was coming, as one can see with his disregard of the captives Hamas is holding. He has had the civilian population of Palestine moving from one area to the other, just a blind as his bombing is everywhere, mostly it seems on the civilian popultion, a bit like what the Germans turned to in the second world war.

Being a civilian is not a get out of gaol free card , it just means you don’t wear a uniform or carry arms publically, neither does Hamas when it suits. Every one of those who lived in Palestine over the age of 2 must have been well aware of the bombardments fired sporadically over the years onto Israel. By their silence it shows their approval. If I was asked if I approved what either side were doing I would say No. If I was asked if I approved of what the Israeli P.M. had done in reply I would say Yes. I would expect any sovereign country to act in a similar manner. Every warlike action bears responsibility and to answer likewise is the only answer to terrorism and to wipe it out completely wherever it exists. JS.

There are unknown depths to any story appearing to those not in the know and war in any case is all supposition in any case. War of any kind is a loss of human morality of any kind. The media has an enormous input to this as always. I”ll continue to take the crossword out of my daily paper , the rest of it I leave to others to read and digest. See now the news on this medium has for some time the reader having to pay for ? Would be like getting blood out of a stone in my case , 3/9d. Would be more attainable. Mostly today people can afford toilet paper. Cheers JS
As to Israel losing friends they can’t have been true friends as a friend in need is a friend indeed. Probably why we have missing members of the site today who were genuine members but saw the light of those infilidating it and trying to reduce its morality to their own warped senses. JS

HAMAS may well be killed off in their current form, but as with any terrorist organization they will return in another form.
Israel may well kill off all the foot soldiers in Gaza, but they will not get the head of this creature.
Remember ISIS, HESBOLA, Al Quaid have they gone, yes but only into hiding until the day they choose to strike again.

Are the people of Gaza innocent of any involvement, or have they been bullied by HAMAS to do the work they do?
I believe that within the populous there are decent honest people who just want to live a simple life.

October 7 was incredibly wrong, but the hatred by some to the state of Israel is palpable.

Support for Palestine far outweighs any for Israel, but do those who protest, such as uni students, have any concept of the middle east and all it's problems?

USA acting they way they are currently towards the situation suggests they are attempting to keep both side happy, not always a good way to go.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
