Re: Iranian Navy seize Tanker
Just going back in history and emphasises the difference in the old wording between Pirate and Privateer . The first being illegal and the second legal because some government says so. JS

Re: Iranian Navy seize Tanker
#5. I was looking for my old Masters Liberian cert. yesterday to re-read the wording , without success up to now. It was issued in 1967 and it was to see if anyone holding a later version if it differed in anyway. What I can remember off hand of the 1967 version was it entitled the holder of such to serve as master of any foreign going vessel of any gross tonnage , nothing else stipulated as regards seatime for revalidation , or anything else , but there again neither did the British foreign going Steamship . Anyone have a copy of a latter day Liberian cert. ?

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17/MAS17) [a] was a scheduled passenger flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur that was shot down by Russian-controlled forces on 17 July 2014, while flying over eastern Ukraine. All 283 passengers and 15 crew were killed.
Sadly innocent people die in wars. But everyone makes money so big business is happy enough to let wars happen.

Re: Iranian Navy seize Tanker
When flight 17 was shot down all other airlines diverted there aircraft away from the war zone. Why was flight 17 allowed to fly over it. Who ever ordered
this must carry the blame

Re: Iranian Navy seize Tanker
Colin, you say when MH17 was shot down all other airlines diverted there aircraft away from the war zone. So up until MH17 was shotdown airlines were flying over that area.
Flight MH17 was reported to be flying at a height of 33,000ft, just 1,000ft above the restricted airspace over Ukraine. ICAO has also issued a statement today saying the aircraft was not in the restricted zone.

Makes no difference to those that died in both tragedies. Sadly it will happen again.
